I have a feeling that MBY & MBM have got a bit further apart of late and all the better for it.
In fact I think there's been a definite improvement in MBM, as I seem to be reading more of the contents than I used to.

"do you think this magazine is not worth the cover price".

Tortured syntax for sure but I can't see the double negative either. Maybe just an uneccessary negative?

Right, but answering 'no' to that question would have become
No, I don't think it's not worth...
Urghhh! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

A scientific analysis of editorial content

I tend to agree that MBM is an inferior magazine to MBY but I decided to address the issue scientifically and compare the actual editorial content of the April issue of each rag to it's cover price. The data is as follows

MBM
83 pages of editorial (excl ads and filler pages like buyers guide)
Page size 644 sq cm
Cover price £4.00

MBY
99 pages of editorial
Page size 698 sq cm
Cover price £4.10

Therefore I calculate that the area of editorial per £ for each mag is as follows

MBM 83x644/4 = 13363 sq cm/£
MBY 99x698/4.1 = 16854 sq cm/£

On this basis MBY gives you 26% more editorial per £ than MBM and therefore proves MBY is a superior magazine. QED

Apart from that, MBY is printed on nice glossy paper whereas MBM appears to be printed on recycled Jeyes bog paper

Maybe one of the answers is a double negative but the question is'nt

Urrrgh! As Mapis said, if you answer "no" you are saying "no I don't think it's not worth the price". So, you have to answer no if you think the mag is good value and yes if you think it's bad value. Jeeze, can't believe I'm typing this. I never knew double negatives were so hard to spot. Your answer above is very pedantic Deleted User, and to be equally pedantic back I never said there was a dub negative in the question. It is crystal clear that the outcome of this vote is unreliable due to wording of the question, which is all I was trying (in vain...) to point out. No worries, this aint important :-)

I answered dont know, on the grounds, that I could not work out whether to answer yes or no, however I have not seen one for ages, so still dont know. But dont buy it much these days, is that yes or no.

As a 'Self Confessed Mobo Anorak' I have subscribed for Many Many Years.
To MBM and buy other Mags related thereof.
Yes, there is repetition in the Mag. (inevitable imho) yes there maybe more In Depth renditions and Posts plus material on here.
Someone might post a query, and peeps will say"We've done that, Oh no not again" even on here.
and be directed to Post History etc etc.

I don't think the Plot is Lost.
Dig deep and Think peeps.
12 Publications a Year?
Keep every Reader glued with interest, what would You suggest and improve on?

As a Consumer of all Things Printed ref Mobo and occasionally Raggie, I think MBM does a good as job as any.
No, I don,t work for IPC

At last some positive comments. One thing people on here seem to forget is that it's sales of magazines that make this forum possible. Without the money they make, does anyone think this forum would even exist ? because I don't.
There are other forums out there but none as richly diverse in opinion and content as this one, so maybe instead of having a go at the magazines and saying it's all crap we should think about things a bit and try to pass on constructive comments rather than destructive for a change.

Incidentally, I had a message from the editorial staff yesterday to advise me that the payment for articles was now a lot more than the £50 previously posted, so maybe a little more worth the effort after all

It's a free forum, but it's hosted by a company that makes its money selling mag's, so taking constant pot shot's at the mag's is like biting the hand that feeds you. A bit self destructive really.
IMHO of course

From information I've read previously from IPC, I gather that ybw makes a profit. Something I suspect they'll be aiming for with all their websites, as the digital information age keeps progressing, and internet advertising becomes more sophisticated.

I'm curious, how does the forum make a profit for them ?
I know the mag's are moving more towards the online version but that's surely not enough yet to replace magazine sales

Just take a look at all the advertising here on the forums, and on the rest of the ybw pages (ybw is rather more extensive than just the forums, there are news pages, boat sales, etc etc, etc). If you log out, and view without being logged in, which is what the vast majority of viewers do, then you see even more advertising.

You did that on purpose /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Seriously though, surely not many people click on all those links, do they ?
The Southampton boat show one would drive me nuts in minutes on its own.

You don't realise how internet advertising sales work. Many will be on a 'per view' basis, rather than on a 'per click through', though buyers are getting more astute and paying more on results than in the early days.

The site traffic here is targetted and quite high volume for a niche site, so fees can be pitched higher than a general site.

The add's. If they dont make a proffit now, they will in the future. Mags are getting old hat. There not interactive, you cant ask a question.

No idea where we are going. But with the power of google. forums and search engines, millions of little businesses might be able to take over. Sort of micro marketing. Trouble is, ask in ten years and there will be a sir Sugar thats done it. But to late to follow.

So the 'Corner Shop' is doomed.
I go to Tescos.
In Tescos I buy the 'North Wales Daily Post' sometimes.
Sometimes'The Sunday Times'.

Same info from Land or Space?
The Corner Shop is Doomed.
But I like My Corner Shop.
I can Talk to the peeps within.
Tescos gives no chatter.

Consumers will make their choice. I don't buy papers anymore, I have news 'pushed' to me via RSS feeds, via google homepage with news feeds that I've selected, and which recommends items I may be interested in, and via email from newspapers I've signed up to. Quite comprehensive, all in all, and all free of charge, other than the advertising they serve up, which isn't a great deal as I'm selective. My news also comes from a selection of online only news sources

OK, chatting with the local person doesn't feature, but I don't expect to get any serious news from a local person, I expect to obtain news from news sources.

I can have a chat with a friendly local employee of local shop, though I don't go there often, as I only do my shopping once a week or so, as local shops are tiny and almost as long a drive away as the nearest supermarket, as no corner shops here in rural Wilts.

Yes but I 'Feed' on Local News more than Intenational stuff.
I have given up on "What's happening in Khartoom" etc since Gordon perished within.
In fact, the Weather Forecast is better from the Spa than the tirternet!
Bloody Nora, I can,t shop once a week!
Can,t get that Organised.

News from Locals?
More Truth than from the Media sometimes, I reckon!

Like the stuff Blair and Co told us about "Weapons of Mass Destruction"?
"Peace in Our Time" from You Know Who?
And Mr M Fish ref the Weather? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
