just felt i wanted to publish a reflection of an experience of dealing with a well known marine services company located in shouthamption. following purchasing my vessel in september 03. during the purchase phase of the process, work was commission by the previous owner to make the craft ready for exchange. problems experienced were one of my engines was cutting out at speed above 4000 revs. further included in the work was afull service, investigation for the engine trouble and replacemen of the anodes etc. all costing near 2500 pounds. following completion and a period of good sea trails the problems continue with the engine. According to te company it was due to contaminated fuel!!. 2 engines running from 1 fuel tank only one engine problem strange. further, they cleaned the tank and it reportedly stopped the problem for the one short run and yet again the engines both this time completly stopped. Aaccording to the bill the cleaned the tanks, serviced the engines and changed all the anodes. dont know way the boat was in the water probbly 2 months and i had further replace the anodes yet again once delivered. some amount of electrollis in that area. anyway while querying this i was informed it was not my bill so the will not discuss it with me. further to date the engine trouble turned out to be both carbs were duff and required replacing. i know this experience is droning on but i want to share and wounder if there are other with simular experiences out there. now i got a local mechanic to complete the work at a consider less of a cost.

Two sides to every story though

Is this fair? If I understand you correctly you are complaining about work done by a boat yard to what is now your boat, before you bought it. The boatyard was contracted by the previous owner not by you. In those circs you do not know what instructions the previous owner gave to the boat yard. It could have been "use the very cheapest anodes, doesn't matter if they disappear in 2 months" and "Keep quiet about the carbs, dont fix them" and suchlike.

Is the cutting out problem sorted? If not check the water trap fuel filter,as it fills it can reduce the flow of fuel to the carbs so that at high RPM the carbs empty.Worth a check before paying for new carbs.

Re: Two sides to every story though

interesting notion to the story,, could be!!!. seems a shame the the previous owner paid near 2500 pounds plus for the work. since that time all work has been completed to a cost of around 250 pounds with secondhand carbs, new anodes and a great willing frined for the labour. The boat is running great now. just waiting for a break in the wather now to take her on a nice run.
