Nearest one to Abersoch is Pwllheli and expansion is planned I think.
You've then got Victoria Dock Caernarfon, Holyhead Marina - in process of completion I think, Port Dinorwic - in the Menai Strait, Beaumaris - marina soon to be built allegedly, Conwy Marina - full I think, Finally opposite Conwy there is a proposal to build a marina at Deganwy.
At least one contributor to this forum has a berth at Pwllheli and may spot your enquiry and give you more practical advice.
Oh, and welcome to the fold.

Without much doubt, you will not be able to do what you wish. There are marinas in North Wales, and the closest to Abersoch is Pwllheli, but unfortunately they are all full. Pwllheli is where I berth, and the waiting list is now approaching 4 years. Others are even worse, Caernarfon has more than double the number of people on the waiting list than there are spaces in the marina.

There are talks of expansions and new marinas in North Wales, but nothing ever happens quickly. The new marina planned for Beaumaris has been talked about for years, but is not expected to be accepting boats until 2007. Construction may start this year if DEFRA get a move on. They could still block it completely though.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. If you want a marina berth you will have to wait for a long time or go somewhere else.

I managed to get in at Conwy last year but only because I have a small boat - Falcon 23

Awaiting this years forms to come out. About this time last year I made my enquiry and kept following it up.

New marina on the other side of the river at Deganwy is underway and should be in use next year at the latest.

One thing to watch is fuel availibility. Conwy has petrol and diesel. I dont think Holyhead, Dinorwic or Caernarfon has petrol

As mentioned the chances are slim and none and Slim is outa town.

Many with powerboats use a park and launch facility with one of the many yards there, and if there is availability they will rent a visitors berth over the week-end. Some of the yards will put it in on a Friday and take it out on a Monday allowing you to get a full week-ends use.

I did this with my trailer sailor whilst on the waiting list, also give you the chance to see if you like it there. The planned expansion will be for powerboats and is going ahead this year ( I am told ).

Membership at the local club is only £85 p.a. and is used by many other powerboaters, worth checking it out.

Yes, and bang goes my mooring....grrrrr.

Though it looks like I am going back into Porthmadog if I can get the right mooring this year, still negotiating.

Speaking to the HB at Pwllheli last week he suggested that we might not ever see the Beumauris or Fishguard marinas ever developed, just info he was getting from the HB meetings he attentended. I did not quite understand some stuff he was saying, but he was fairly adament on this point.

I keep a boat at Port Dinorwic. I understand that there are no berths on the outside pontoons but there are one or two available inside the locks if you do not mind the hassle of locking in and out at the appropriate times. PD is an excellent marina and the Straights will test all your skills!!
