Anyone with experience of marinas in Spain, particularly the Costa de la Luz, around Cadiz, Puerto Se Santa Maria, Ayamonte etc. Cost ? is it correct that in Spain one buys a berth ? Any info appreciated...

I don't know this area, but if you intend to buy one, get all the information. Sometimes they talk about owning a berth, but you are really renting it for 25 to 99 years.

Good luck,

Miquel.

Most of the marinas along this coast are owned by the Junta de Andalucia (basically the local government). They have a website http://www.eppa.es/. The prices are shown at http://www.eppa.es/actividad/tarifasatraques/tarifas.jsp

Berths are rented - I don't think you can buy them.

The smaller marinas (e.g. Ayamonte) are often full in the peak months and sometimes don't even have room for visitors. The larger marinas almost always have vistors berths but if you wanted a permanent berth you'll probably need to add your name to a waiting list (this is currently the case at Rota).

There is a very large privately owned marina at Puerto Sherry but it is rather run down and surrounded by half built houses and hotels.

Stephen,
