Hi All
Swansea Marina are saying that they have a waiting list in excess of 50 boats waiting for berths in the Marina, Friends of ours arrived today expecting to stay for 4 months of the summer like they have been for the last 5 years, they have been told that may not be possible, and may have to leave next week, as all the berths are booked /allocated!!!. So much for attracting tourism!!! It should be interesting to see what happens in peak season!! What's it like in your Marina ???

I had to wait for 2 years for a slot in mine. Cannot think of many marinas where you can turn up and expect to stay for only summer months. Most are booked up, at least on south coast. Visitor spots usually available depending on time of year, and weekend rush, but that is for weekends or a few days. Wanting to stay for 4 months is hardly tourist, more wanting to take advantage of marina in peak season, but not willing to pay for advantage of the marina slot year round to guarantee availability?

I think Pwllheli has berths and they do advertise them per day / week / month etc. Bit pricey but good though. I'm not in a marina, I'm in a harbour. Cheap as chips (£500 pa) but thw whole estuary restricts you as to when you can leave / return.

Thinking about it....
If they're short of 50 berths then why dont they dredge out some of the shallow end at Abernethy Quay and put some of the smaller fishing boats there.
There is an unused pontoon there anyway which I notice they've just had re-decked....so perhaps thats going to happen.
Theres plenty of actual room in the dock it's just a matter of dredging it and utilising it.

Councils eh?

Steve.
