one week with swmbo on a yacht just the two of us (flot)
not too drunken
lou loved the idea of no mates on board and was busy working on her all over tan. so i did get a bit distracted and nearly hit a neilsen yacht in the meganissi channell. still we gave him somehting for his log entry.

bit of a storm in fiscardo but we were safely tucked in early.
some daft sods motored around for 5 (count 'em, 5 ) hours before deciding to bugger off after 2 unsuccesful matings ( they were more matings then moorings) to the bows of 2 seperate boats already moored stern to.

there was one morning when when lou and woke up on board having no idea how we got there. apparently i had designed my own cocktail and become its biggest fan and consumer and we both required assistance aboard.

anyway is upshot is we coped fine and lou actually preferred just the two of us. although the social bit of the flot was good.

still not working ( hoorah ) but have bought a home confuser cos i have completed all the jobs in the house and visited everyone i need to see.

still no pressure from swmbo to work so am making most of it. my golf has improved beyond recognition am doing rya yacht master and rya dinghy instructor.

Hurrah!

Welcome back, oh Mighty One; your people have missed you!

PS: Tried typing "flotilla sailing"+"all over tan" into Google but it didn't produce any results. In the absence of pictorial evidence, I'm not sure anyone here is going to believe you.

)

I take it you went on the south Flottilla? we have just returned from the north one,and we to got caught in the storms. I have never seen a boat leak as bad as that jag did, took us a full day to dry out clothes bedding ect. Still enjoyed it though!

Just plain good to get you back... Not sure IPC have the same feeling but hey, Kim's got to earn his money ( or lack of it) somehow !!

Seriously, has the foot-rot gone? You will note that in your absence Foot-and-Mouth is no longer front pages news.. (or was that Foot-in-Mouth?)

I find it incredible....

... that Sailing Holidays (formerly "Flotilla Sailing Club") are still using those Jaguars. My wife and I had "Kithira" out in 1975 and she'd done a few years then.

There are often strong winds both to the east and west of Ithaca in the mid to late afternoons. I was in the Saronic last week and the local Ch85 weather for your area sounded OK but there can be quite significant local differences.

glad you enjoyed it.

Re: I find it incredible....

we were out there (on flot anyway) first week in september
dufour 30 nice little boat. i could easily handle all the sheets in a blow whilst swmbo took the helm.
we did have good winds. the first time we raised the main we noticed a big tear in the luff. fortunately being keen we had raised it asap leaving the pick up. the lead boat had not left the home harbour and had a sail in the stores
they said just raise it and let it rip ( the sail i assumed)
anyway we managed fine with just a genny (wind up our chuff , first time on a flot normally it is on the nose) but got pissed off later and motor sailed last bit. could not be arsed fighting in a ripped main (wind at least 25 knots) so left it down.

we did see sailing holidays come in.it was more akin to a vintage rally than a flot
not sure if the Jag 27 lead boat was its length or age. the flot we saw was 2 week flot (with quite abit of free sailing to be fair in the middle)

last time was in ionian did too much motoring this time nice mix of wind. only complaint was previously if you wanted to stay out late you could. not this time
main reason being so many boats seeking same harbours. Neilsen had hundreds of boats. so if you weren't in by five no space. i was last there '96 but i had not expected THAT expansion in yachts.

Re: I find it incredible....

RE- Jags. The Jags have had a complete refit, new paint job hull and topsides, Harken self tailers, spinlocks ect. It seems that when bolting all the gear back on deck they forgot to add any sealant! spoilt a good job IMHO. As regards the winds, we had one force eight, but mainly five to six, so good sailing. One day we motored into a five on the nose up to Corfu town, the bilge board floated and we took five buckets of water out from under the forward berths! very interesting. We went our own way for the last four days and I would do it again but bareboat next time. Have to say, Sailing holidays organisation spot on couldnt fault it.

Re: I find it incredible....

Greece is getting crowded everywhere now. Last week I took the option of anchoring off when a flotilla came into one of our favourite harbours rather than have them all over us. I'm NOT anti social (just anti socialist!) but I don't see why I should provide a mooring barge for a load of drunks to stamp (or worse) up and down on when they return at 1am

There are still lots of unspoilt places in Greece though* but when a local can turn a shed into a money making "taverna" who's to blame him?

Re: I find it incredible....

I notice that they've had a sort of fairing around the bow to make a "cathead" too. Pity they didn't get the gelcoat to match.

Had you seen the boats before booking, do you think that you would have still gone ahead? Sunsail's modern Jeanneaus look like Golf GTIs against SH's Morris Oxfords, don't you think? OK prices are slightly lower but there are lots of companies offering good boats at comparable prices, Setsail for instance or even Neilson (if you like dayglo sails!)

Re: I find it incredible....

I agree
i always prefer to anchor than go into a busy marina
but in greece it used to be fun
in the ionian if you are not in by 5 you are shot
the flots squeeze in wherever as they have t get the boats in

Re: I find it incredible....

I think the fairing round the bow is an attempt to repair the damage caused by years of hitting concrete harbour walls, in fact a couple of them were coming loose, ours was and i think this was the reason for taking on water when motoring into head seas. I only booked as a late deal and was given good price, the boat looked quite good upon arrival with its paint job, new mast and boom (in mast reefing) Sailing Holidays is a company i would use again, but as said i would bareboat next time. The reason for this is that we like to take more time to look round an area before deciding to move on. Now that we have had a taster i would no doubt shop around to see what else is on offer.
