Terry, I never meant to infer that all Volvos are unreliable.
We run 3.5 tonne, 7.5 tonne and 18/20 tonne dropside lorrys.
The 3.5 tonne ones are Iveco Daileys which we run for 2 years or 400,000 miles and are without doubt the best trucks in this range we have ever used.
7.5 tonne models have been the old Ford Cargo which was simple and a great vehicle, and MAN and Iveco which we consider to be equal and have no preference.
18/20 tonne have been Iveco, Volvo and MAN. As said the Volvos were problamatical to say least, but the auto box on our existing MAN lorry has had its problems whereas the Ivecos have been a great success.
We have no alliegence to any one make and I would suggest that there are not any bad lorries currently available, it is just that some are a little bit better than others. Nothing much in it either way.
There is not a lorry manufacturer that has got a range where all models are perfect, and jfm's post that his reservations on MAN marine engines refered to one engine size only illustrates the point.
I do not know how old you are or if you remember the 7.5 tonne lorry that Volvo brought out to compete with the Ford Cargo, but here I say without any doubt that the Volvo was the biggest load of absolute **** that was ever put on the market.
No manufacturer ever gets it right all the time.
As an aside I consider your Volvo Tractor units to be the very best vehicle currently being offered, but we do not have a use for artics.
