Mallorca Cruising

We are chartering in Mallorca this summer.
Anyone got any hot tips on where to go - and, more importantly, where to avoid?!
We've got 1 week and we're looking at a relaxing time not a marathon!!

The marathon bit would come from going to menorca. A nice trip is around the island. Puerto portals is fine to anchor outside and smart marina (but rather £££) Soller on N coast is worth a look, Es trenc on s coast is blue water. Arenal sounds and looks a dump but has a swimming pool and rather fab (free) yacht club.

Be prepared to pay through the nose if you go into Cala D'or (Cala Llongha).

We were charged 34 euro fo the night two years ago -in April!

To go to :- P. Andraixt ; P. Soller ; P. Pollensa ; P.Petro.
To avoid :- Alcudia ; P. Bonaire ; anywhere on the S.Coast E. of Palma.
Doing a circuit of the island can be a bit arduous if there are a couple of days of bad weather during the week you are there. We had an exciting couple of days with a mistrale and 4-5m seas. This wasn't in the Summer however.

I'd disagree to avoid everywhere to SE; Es trenc is blue water anchorage at far SE end. in the bay of palma, Arenal is a safe port and welcomes visitors, popular with long distance boaties, tho ashore outside the marina not rec'd.

most expensive marina is Portals west of palma. 400 euros a night in high season for a 75 footer yeehah!

And Palma itself is a surprisingly interesting city, if you want to spend some time ashore doing culture, shopping, sightseeing.

cala portals about 4 miles across bay from porto portals has a nice restaraunt if you don't mind the nudist beach

other than that i would head to pollensa cos you have a number of stops on the waythat are options
if you are going july onwards it will be busy everywhere
ibiza and menorca are probably a bit ambitious

well, i agree that this bit of palma nearish the airport is quite ghastly BUT i strongly recommend the marina, very secure against any possible entry by non-boaties from the landside. Free swimming pool with poolside bar and restuarant and very swish bar with sat tv and monster measures and literally NOTHING at all worth going ashore and tramping around for - no clothes shops nor any culture whatsoever - i mean, how much better can it get?
