Making your own exhaust elbow - why not

I made one up for my Volvo MD1 using standard threaded galvanised bends and fittings from BES - there wasn't enough room in the engine bay to install a prefabricated unit, so I built it 'in situ', the threaded connections let me manipulate the orientation of the bends etc to suit the available space, and then all joints were sealed with exhaust sealing paste

The only thing on these elbows that would be a bit time consuming is the flange. Probably take an hour or so by hole saw and disc cutter. If I was thinking of a small run, the guys down the road with a CNC laser could turn them out in short order. Hummm..

Cutting a one off flange, no problem for these people, just give them a drawing or pattern and the material.

Very clean and accurate, I had a piece of 5mm ally cut, about 2ft square, from a pattern, £30 ish.

Mermaid exhaust bends are double skinned, the water is injected all round the gas flow, to avoid erosion that can occur where the water hits the opposite wall inside.

Used basic elbows, available in 316 SS from an outfit in Chester. Got a local welder to weld it. Used an inj bit from ASAP. Was quite straight foward. Motored across Biscay for two straight days.

What have we got here? An auto advert cutting and pSting our posts?
