Hi,
I am just messing about with my engine, sticky up, mixing elbow.
Interestingly the last one failed at the connector. Male to male nipple i think plumbers call it. Tapered thread. Elbow is bronze and connector is brass I guess, it's very yellow, can't believe it is bronze. Luckily elbow broke off in my hand. The connector was completely dezincified and extremely thin. Doesn't seem very sensible to have a great heavy elbow supported by such a delicate thing imo.
My question is this. When reassembling the exhaust elbow, connector and mixing elbow, how do i get it pointing in the direction I want and yet be gas tight. Seems to me that almost by definition, unless you are lucky, it won't come tight at exactly the point you want it. Loads of ptfe tape? Some fancy goo?
All input very much appreciated.
