Has anyone ever attended a major boat show outside of the UK

Would be interested in feedback as to how they compare to Southampton and if trip was of value and worthwhile.............

Yes, I've been to Dusseldorf a few times and Genoa once. Genoa is now apparently a shadow of its former self but Dusseldorf is by far the biggest and best show in Europe although of course it isn't an on water show like SIBS. You do need 2 days to get round the Dusseldorf show though

Yes Dusseldorf is certainly worth the effort (having said that I lived in Amsterdam at the time so it was only a few hours drive away :-) ). It remains to be seen what Genoa will become, we will see this year.

Fort Lauderdale was visited by by someone from this neck of the woods recently I believe. It's supposed to be very good...but is it??

Nicest show in Europe by far is Cannes, in September. Well worth a trip. A trip to the Riviera is worth it anyhow and September is arguably the nicest month, but it's x2 worth it when Cannes boat show is on. The EBY team will be there too, and there will be an ok sq78 on display this year.

Just looked up Cannes '13....Wow! Looks a fantastic line up. I'd definitely give that one some serious consideration Paul.

The Cannes Boat Show is probably the "main event" of the year...

The same people asking us to book a stand at Cannes have also been asking us about the Paris boat show in December (6th to 15th) http://marinesource.com/boat_shows/paris-international-boat-show.html

Those are probably two of the better shows if you want to go outside the UK without travelling too far away. There are many more shows but these tend to be "industrial" rather than a "boat show" such as METS (Marine Equipment Trade Show) in Amsterdam and Europort in Rotterdam.

jfm, never been to the Cannes show but is there a good mix of boats as in small and large, cheap and expensive, used and new or does it major on big yachts only? How does it compare in size to SIBS? I must admit Cannes in Sept sounds tempting!
