Done 2,000 posts - this should be 2,001.

Lurked on these forums for some years and got a few good tips and liked the good natured humour of some and the cruising experiences some put effort in to tell. So just over a year ago promised myself that I would do 2,000 posts trying, in the main to be constructive (but realising how dangerous that could be) as penance for what I had already taken, and then lurk again.

Things that have become clearer over that year are:

Some really good experiences and knowledge amongst a comparatively few posters but generally overwhelmed by the poor advice of others.

Sure am glad that I have always been able to afford new boats, would hate to inherit a butchered used one.

Easily confirmed that MoBo's are, as a generalisation, more accommodating (less arrogant?) in their behaviour on the water than Raggies.

Gained some friends (albeit long distance ones) and even more appreciated the good humour of some from their occasional PM's - special thanks for that. Gained some enemies too, fortunately they cannot throw bricks through my windows from 12,000 miles away /forums/images/icons/smile.gif.

So, MainlySteam goes to the executioner after this post (to the delight of some I am sure). However, I will continue to post as Ships_Cat but only from a yarning and perhaps (sometimes) mischievous point of view - and anything interesting in our summer cruises here in NZ. I have Teach Yourself Scottish on order /forums/images/icons/smile.gif.

Thanks everyone

John

John,

you are not natural lurker, as you have too many tales to tell. So stay put and keep us amused!

Ships_Cat Laps Up

Will be around as Ships_Cat - did my penance, so now some fun.

The real Ships_Cat can be quite spirited - I can hear him downstairs as he has just beaten the dog up again.

I for one have come to enjoy your postings...wish I had your knowledge of the sea. Dont ever leave this Forum.. dont understand why MainlySteam is on the way out.. is that something to do with the total number of postings we can make under one name ????
I dont think someone like you would ever make enemies... well not unless the Kiwis beat the Aussies at " sniffy bum"

Keep posting ><><><><

Hi Brian

I just thought Ships_Cat might bring a new low level of authority to my posts :)

He was going to throw me overboard or just rescue himself after sinking, leaving me to my doom in the Southern Ocean, but a straight execution seemed tidiest.

Yep.

Ships_Moggie is not that interested in sex, or even in sixes or sevens for that matter, as he is neutered.

On the kiwi accent - had an Oz thinking I was English when I was away a couple of weeks ago. Your wife being a NZ'er and assuming you are Welsh (think I have that correct) you will appreciate the horror in that.

Re: Ships_Cat Laps Up

SWMBO is American (one of her few faults) and after 17 years is still being asked if she is enjoying her holiday in the UK.

Over the years in the USA I have been asked if I was from Germany, South Africa, Australia, Scandinavia (he hedged his bets a bit) and even from Scotland!

Congratulations or is is commisserations on 2000 posts (another SOG, Sad Old Git)? Once in a while you come across someone you can really get on with, for me you are in that category even though it may be like the unbelievably sexy telephone voice you later discover belongs to a Nora Batty lookalike (don't ask)/forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Welcome Ships_Cat!

Errrr. Take your point. Slight slip of the level of aloofness there, so a correction is in order.

Actually Ships Cat does exist but he is kinda difficult to understand once you get away from the "I am hungry", "Don't you dare eat my fish", "You think I would use that as a dirt box do you, we will see about that", "One more step doggie and I will scratch you eyes out" stuff.
