Chuffed to bits! Made it out to watch the Fastnet start courtesy of and much thanks to Mr. Mendez and one of Mendez Marines' ribs.
A sight to behold for sure and watching from a rib is simply the best way to do it imo.
Perfect conditions for mobos but not so great for the racing fleet unfortunately. Must've been so frustrating for them but hey...gave us more time to enjoy the view.
Headed out of the Hamble around midday and could see the throng of sails in the distance over at Cowes. Stepped it up a bit until we were right in the thick of it all. Fantastic!
Took the camera and just stuck it on continuous shoot in the hope that some of the pics would come out ok. Glad to say, out of 500 odd pics, some did.
Sped off up to Hurst to meet up with some friends who were anchored there, rafted up, grabbed a spot of lunch with them before deciding it was too choppy in there so headed across to Alum Bay which was the original plan.
Flat calm in there so dropped anchor and watched the first of the fleet trickle past.
Got bored with that as we wanted to see them all en mass so we headed back towards Hurst where, by now, they were all steadily streaming by. The fleet just got got thicker and thicker to the point at one stage we weren't quite sure which route to take thru them all. Not sure I'd have been quite so keen to get so up close and personal if the wind had been in their favour tbh!
So glad I was able to make it out to see them all. The weather played ball (for us at least) which just made it all the more enjoyable.
Brilliant few hours out in our back yard...just can't beat the Solent sometimes!
