Having just read the thread about the chap who was struggling with his electrics on his new boat which he is selling ! With no knowledge of boats, apparently he bought it in December from a yard over 100 miles away, had it delivered locally and only then observed it was too small. He was too busy to see the boat before he bought it and had it delivered.

I thought it was 1st April when I read the comments. I bet the broker thought his Christmas had arrived early. Or have I mis read the thread.

So come on mad or bad purchase tales !

That's a bit rude.

I thought this was a friendly place.

Nothing wrong with the boat just a bit too small for us. Why would the broker think his Christmas had arrived early ??? The brokerage is highly reputable - I don't understand that comment at all.

I'll sel it for more than I paid for it - so why is that worthy of your offensive post?

I'd been on very similar boats before.

If you must know - my other mother in law has been in and out of a hospice - she recently passed away after suffering for many months. We didn't have time to drive 5 hours across the country - it's not 100 miles away so god knows where you got from - and drive the five hours back. I'm running three businesses and have a young family.

Be sure to let know me if you'd like to meet up for a beer and discuss in more depth. I'd be happy to oblige any internet troll.

When between boats and after an enjoyable afternoon BBQ'ing with family and friends and a large number of Peroni, I managed to be the highest bidder on a jetski on ebay. It was one of those man logic moments when you think, if that only makes £1k, I'll buy it. So there I was, the new owner of a cheap enough, fairly local jetski on a trailer.

Mrs P4Paul wasn't that impressed, especially when I asked if I could stick a towing hitch on her car, after all there was no way my Smart car was going to be up for the job!

The seller made contact and said that when he went to start it, the engine was seized up - not sure if that was the case or he had a much better offer elsewhere; either way, he asked if he could withdraw from the deal and having had my ears abused by Mrs P4Paul, I couldn't say yes fast enough.

She hasn't let me forget even though it was nearly five years ago!

I still have nightmares about the things Mrs P4Paul said she would do to me if I touched her car!

Simon, Trevor is a really decent bloke, certainly no troll, and I'm sure if you met him, you would feel the same. Your story is very interesting, and good for you for realising quickly that this boat is not for you. We did the same with our first boat, only kept her a few months, as she was not for us. We did view her a couple of times, but it was only with use that we realised what we really wanted.

I agree with Rafiki he must have thought it was xmas, cant think of anyone who would buy a boat without viewing
as for selling it at a profit good luck as the boat market is on its backside at the moment.

A chap of my acquaintance who lives down Poole way went to SIBS - had a good time, particularly in the bar with some old mates and thought nothing more of it to about a month later when, whilst at work, he he had a call from his wife at home to the effect that someone was trying to deliver a bloody great RIB that they claimed he a bought. To cut a long story short, he deigned all knowledge and got the number of the company off her and called them - they claimed he had ordered it at SIBS and paid by credit card - which he utterly denied. On refection he than called one of his drinking buddies who confirmed that yes, a after a few hours in the bar and after some banter he had indeed marched onto the relevant stand and placed the order. To say his wife was unhappy would have be a slight understatement.

Sir, you just earned my vote for the most hilarious post of the month. :encouragement: :D

Btw, how come you've got a Smart car and your missus a larger one?
It's just the opposite for me, and for several other friends couples as well.
...though what we have in common is the fact that swmbo's car is one of the most untouchable family assets!

My SWMBO has a 5 Series. Me a 3. Well it is the 3 GT, so actually a bit bigger than the 5.

My maddest story would have probably been one I've been considering very recently, about a twin 1000hp engines boat of the 90s...
But eventually, as P4Paul would put it, the number of Peroni was not large enough, and a momentary glimpse of reason prevailed! :)

I once jokingly explained to my wife that cars were like their owners - I have a small backside and therefore have a car with a small boot, whereas she drives an estate car.....

I was in agony for days after..... :hurt:

FWIW, someone who used to work for me called me up a while back to ask my advice. She'd taken a new job which sounded great, but soon after starting she realised it was all wrong for her. But, she said, people will think I'm pretty stupid if I have to explain why I gave notice after only six weeks. I said I thought that what would be really stupid would be sticking with a job she hated for a long time just because of what other people might think.

In 1991, when life was on a tight budget, I drooled over an almost brand new Sea Ray 160 with a Mercury 115 and a matcing trailer of known good brand.

Out of my reach, but seller was as bit pushy so to turn him off I offered 60% of the asking price. Not that it was within my budget, but at least he let off.
Until next day when he called to let me know the seller had accepted :p

I managed to raise the money against all odds and got the boat. Had it for 14 years, loved every second, kept it mint and sold it with a small benefit when upgrading to something bigger.

The story behind seller accepting the low offer later was disclosed: When starting on water skis soon after getting the boat he accidently got the line around a leg and had severe injuries when his friend at helm fired it off at WOT. Got so scared he never wanted to set foot on it again.

I feel bringing this to our (my) attention is a big mistake...HUGE!!
:D

I was not wishing to offend, and therefore I apologise if I have, however clearly I was not aware of your personal situation, but this forum is a place where light hearted views about boating adventures and mis-adventures, both our own and those of others can be openly voiced. Your tale struck me as somewhat bizarre.

I do hope you get a fair price and indeed cover your costs towards your next boat. :encouragement:

At the end of their lives people regret what they didn't do far more than what they did. Hat's off to Saintlysimon...
