I think the marine world refuses to even acknowledge the existance of Macs. Most marine software does seem to be produced by small outfits who (understandably I suppose) only write software for the blind masses who suffer Windose and insist on making Gates the richest bloke in the world.

Installing Virtual PC is probably the only way.

I have a mate who uses Mac's and reckons that the PC emulator can do anything a PC can so that might be worth a try.
Have a mooch round the web and ask on a few Mac sites, they tend to be quite protective of their Macs so they'll tell you if it's possible.

Macs v PCs., rather like Betamax v VHS with the same arguements applying except that in the early days when both systems were equal Apple refused to allow cloning which is why they never took off like PCs did.
These days only the Printing industry rely on Macs the rest of the world use PCs whether that be in Windoze or Linux. Ergo why write software that will sell by the tens of copies when you can write to sell by the thousands.

Re: Macs exclusive

and......Sailmakers! Noticed the loft where mine are being done at present uses a Mac. Neat mouse arrangement where you only push the mouse to click, this appeals to me as have developed tendonitis (RSI) in index finger over last year or so as email has gradually become a major part of my working life.

I am yet to find a PC program that won't run on the emulator software Virtual PC installed on a Mac.

Mac Zone is currently selling Virtual PC for between $119.00 and $229.00 USD depending on the version. http://www.zones.com/cgi-bin/zones/...&Submit2.y=0&non_partner_search=no_partner_id

Ebay has several copies of Virtual PC listed. http://search.ebay.com/search/searc...=1&st=2&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&BasicSearch=

If these long URLs (web addresses) don't work, contract them until everything after the .com is gone and then do a search for Virtual PC after the website opens.

Using a Mac is not a rational computing decision, it is a bizarre religious conviction.

I've worked with both, run the same courses on consecutive days in a college with Mac labs and PC labs.

The Macs crashed just as often, and often took longer to reboot. Now Apple change the operating system even more often than Bill does.

This would all be fine but in addition:

~ bits cost more
~ software costs more
~ not so much software is available

Using a PC emulator just slows the whole thing down even more, and makes as much sense as a Betamax emulator on a VHS video.

So why oh why persevere?

As I said, it's a religious thing.

Is it religious conviction that makes some people prefer stinkies and others raggies, or simply that each side believes its 'operating system' to be better suited for the purpose required? And let it not be said that just as it takes a lot of vroom-vroom to make a stinkie get from A to B, so it takes a lot of Pentium power to get a PC to add 2 + 2. Plus the looks, the human interaction with the machine... well, really!

You haven't gained the impression that I drive a Mac and a raggie, I hope!

Any computer will crash if not masintained, although I have been useing OSX on a Mac for over a year and not one single crash. The problem is not with the hardware its the OS its using, if you run a Unix OS on an Intel PC you will get a secure PC with few crashes, run Windows and you may find prolems.

Mac cost more, but a BMW costs more than a Vauxhall - both do the same job but one will out last the other though the parts may cost a little more. I have clients using Macs that are over 6 years old, how may Windows PC's would you get through in the same time scale?

Its not a religious thing its all down to personal prefernce, some poeple wouldn't be seen dead driving a BMW!
