Macgreggor 26

Does anyone know if there is a website for the macgreggor 26, or where i can get hold of a brochure?

Any help would be gratefully recieved.

I think the McGregor 26 UK sales centre is in Falmouth. If you search the archives on this board, you'll discover that the McG26 isn't exactly the least controversial choice of yacht.

It may be controvercial, but it does exactly what I need it to do, it is perfect for windermere with its being trailable, and can be taken down to the solent or the broads for the occasional holiday. The only downside in my view is the petrol engine.

It is designed for a specific market sector. T
here is one which is berthed in the Caledonian Canal just north of Loch Ness. The owner stays in Aberdeen. He sails out down the loch and when he wants to return he just turns round, motors back, and is back at his berth in a quarter of the time.
Suits him very well, he can sail as and when he wants.

Also Loch Ness is larger and can be much wilder than Windermere.

Very much horses for courses.

Not for me, but that is just my personal opinion.

Certainly suitable for want you want to do with it.

Don't forget that not all Macgregor 26 are the hybrid 26X with the big engine on the back. The earlier 26C were proper sailing yachts with the same water ballast feature to make trailing easy. I have owned one for the past 9 years and have had great fun sailing her in the Solent. They sail very well (albeit not designed to cross oceans), are fast and easy and cheap to maintain. Well worth considering if you want a better sailing boat and are not concerned about having the big engine. I have recently put mine on the market because I have traded up to a 36 footer. If you wish to discuss the merits of this design please let me know.

You probably don't realise it Rob , but the mention of a McGregor on this site generates nearly as much emotion as a Bavaria. PBO tested one a couple of months ago. Might be worth getting hold of a copy to see what they made of it.

I expect the guy at the helm has a specially contoured, padded seat with bottle/cup-holders in the armrests!.

Totally different boats. The 26C is a conventional boat (I think a trailer sailer) which has a good reputation. The 26X is the water-ballasted motor boat with a mast.
