Hi,

Hey hope you are all well, been looking thru the forums for quite a while now, about time I should join!

I have 1 question, of which I know how to get the answer, but my chart’s are 100 miles away 
I am going to lymington this weekend, 2 meter draft, and my eta mean’s I arrive at low tide, it’s spring this weekend.

Is it possible to go up to lymington with a 2 m draft this weekend @ low tide?

Thanks for the time – I hope to input as well as just ask.

Cheers

hi big nick, yes i wish to go to lymington marina, where Berthon is?
If i can't go this far, i'll go to the marina before this one on the river?

Cheers Nick.

Looking at the chartlet in the old copy of MacMillans I keep in the office, you have >2m above CD in the channel and Lymington Yacht Haven but only 1.6m at the Town Quay and Lymington Town Marina. The corrections are -0.1m MLWS, which is on Sunday, and LW is about 0.5m on both days. You might make it, but with high pressure forecast as well you may end up a few inches too shallow dead on LW. Depends if its been dredged since the chart was made, etc.

Minimum depth is early sunday mornining (0608) when it is supposed to be 0.36ft above CD. Older charts show some places above the main marina are at less than 2m above cd, down to abt 1.2m alongside the town quay. However, the harbour master claims a minimum dredged depth of 2m across all the moorings, and I certainly would not be too concerned unless I was getting very close to the north side of the channel (in the small boat moorings where they normally try to put me!)

You won't have any trouble getting to Berthons but stay well within the channel marks, without obstructing the ferries. The ferries tend to act as dredgers, their prop wash keeps the channel in good shape.

I was at Berthon several years till 2002. You can get as far as Berthon, but not beyond. As you enter and progress along the channel do not trust the red/green posts. Stay WELL within the marked channel. You really can go aground at the edges of the channel, even if you are the correct side of the posts, at LWS. I saw it done often on larger sailboats with 2m ish keels and pulled a couple off

Get in before the ferries are in the river, they suck all the water from the edges & can leave you high & dry.
They have a passing place just around the bend when entering, so both will be there together. Can get interesting at low water springs.
