Still looking round: I need:
A trailer sailor with less than 800 kg combined towing weight.
Able to be rigged and launched singlehanded
Sleeps 2 minimum. Preferably with space for a small galley, portapottie.
A good stiff sea boat, capable of standing a bit of a blow, suitable for short island hopping trips, West Scotland
Easily handled- all lines to cockpit, roller reefing etc.
Good galvanised road trailer.
£6,000 or so.
Does this exist?

Hunter Medina should fit the bill. I had one based on the West Coast of Scotland for several years. Reasonably easy to launch & land as they have a "piggy- back" trailer, boat sits on launching trolley which is winched onto the road trailer. No problems with the mast single handed as it pivots in a tabernacle and it had roller feeling. Cruised mainly around Mull area and out to Coll etc. Should get a good one for around £4K.

I recall a hunter 19 on the hard at Tobermory which looked like it may have been there a while. Perhaps worth chasing up the owner?

I think your top weight is a bit low. My former First 18 weighed 900Kg + trailer ex factory, put any cruising kit on or roller reefing and the weight goes up.

Other Micros are available.

A Medina or my similar Copland Harrier will probably weigh 1000Kg+ and tow at nearer 1500-1800Kg.

Launching and rigging an 18'er is no problem for a reasonably fit 40 yr old. On a 20'er some help is better but not essential if conditions are right.

We went back in Tobermory after trying to beat into an F5 down the Sound of Mull in the Harrier, any smaller boat you will be more restricted by the conditions.

I recall an Etap 22i being advertised by folk I know but that's bigger than you are looking at, it fills most of the spec very well though.

I'm no expert but for me "a trailer sailor with less than 800 kg combined towing weight" and a "good stiff sea boat, capable of standing a bit of a blow" is the difficulty... water ballast might do so I reckon Swallowboats. Budget is the issue though.... second hand BayCruiser 20 perhaps?? Think the Expedition is too new....

There are several Drascombe Longboat Cruisers for sale on eBay at the moment, for £5,000 a pop. I'd be awful tempted, if I didn't have to factor in the cost of the inevitable divorce.

I started out with the same intentions regarding weight.

I assure you something heavier would be better to meet your required sea keeping qualities...

She is ready and waiting on her trailer......

Two good reasons why I want a tiddler- I do not want to drive a dirty great 4x4 tow car, so I want something towable by a smallish car.
Secondly, I am 74, and want something easily handled, that I can rig and launch myself. My present Hunter 232 is a right pig to launch and retrieve, and needs at least three people to raise and lower the mast.
Still thinking of a West Wight Potter 15, if only the sheer line was prettier!

you are right

it is an ugly son of a gun

but it is the view from the cockpit that counts

and you live in a truly wonderful place

if you get caught away from home in the bad weather then you can catch a bus back to pick it up

go small is what I say

I had one of these

loved it except that the centre plate clonked in a swell

Can't think of anything much. Even our little Leisure 17 was about 1100kg on it's trailer. It's the weight that scuppers it. To be honest, if you're thinking of using the same tow car for launching and recovering, you could do with not going too close to it's towing limit anyway. The slipway will give the car a really hard time if it's close to the maximum it is capable of towing.
