Well, in Europe we have sunny Topsham, tropical Teignmouth, all within easy reach of both Exeter and Bristol airports, and there's also Plymouth!

Ye of little stamina!!

Re: airport list first

Okeedokee...

Bristol/Exeter to:
Barcelona; Malaga; Alicante
Bordeaux; Bilbao; Nice
Faro
Venice

Not a bad choice, all schedule by cheapee airlines.

I know some of the marinas in north Spain .. Estartit etc, but I would need to get to say somewhere near Bordeaux then down to faro etc. etc.

Note: I have not sailed the atlantic coast of Spain Portugal.

Great to think and plan.

What about Bristol to Blackpool one day? Fleetwood might not be in the heart of Europe, but it is in Europe and on the calm, sunny Irish Sea.

With a 30 footer you could go through the canals.

In your profile you say you are an ex - expat. Well time to become an expat again!!!

Suggest you try the cheapo's and go away to wherever you fancy having a dirty weekend then go to the local marinas to ask about a berth. You then get to try some of the cheapo's and the area.
I personally would not travel with Ryan Air but Squeezy seem fine.

You could try La Rochelle - 3000 boat marina plus the Vieux Port - both Ryan Air ex stanstead and Bifly?? ex southampton fly here. Stacks of chandlers (6-8) sail lofts, electroic places around the marina - and a really beautiful old town........ 36ft boat is about €2,500pa that is about £1,786 - only problem is their year runs Jan to Jan but the wine is great and I have been in shirt sleeves to-day.... Bus or taxi from the airport - 10 minutes

If wherever you move into Europe is at the end of a cheapy flight route you can bet your bottom dollar that that route will soon be suspended, permanently!

It looks that ferry routes are now vulnerable as well.

We have some friends who live in the W Midlands and keep boat on Portuguese coast - reckon flights + marina berth cheaper than berthing/trips to Solent - admittedly they do have significant chunks of sailing time (teacher & retired something become law student). Tempting isn't it ! (said as I dry out after leaving boat this morning and watch rain driving across office window).

Yup I supose so after nearly 22 years in the middle east, 6 years back here is probably enough reality!

Just one more year to get Shady completely fitted out, & a new set of sails.

The canals are a really good thought but I did want to experience the Atlantic coast of Spain & Portugal, after reading about it on here & in the mags, it appears to be a place not to miss sailing.

Re: Cheapo Airlines

I am having a busy night, at work that is, so have been trolling through websites for the cheapo's. There seems to be a bunch of them flying to the Iberia penninsula, incl Port of course. One of them was quoting 0.25 GBP for Murcia. Cant remember what the taxes were but that was added.
I booked a flight a wee while ago for my wife to come out and it was about 17 quid including 11.50 taxes.
Go for it.

Trieste/Monfalcone in Italy? Monfalcone's 10 mins from the airport (Ryanair). A year's mooring for 32" boat = €1500 or so.
