Very true.when I srrived in Sweden there were very few houses for sale. Capital gains tax etc took 25% of the money recieved to buy another house. So people could not sell. But there were a lot of run-down houses called Dödsbo where the house was sold by relatives or the state.after the owner died. A real estate agent explained this to me. When an elderly house owner can no longer handle the house he goes into state or private care home system. The owner is so dis-heartened he had no will or reason to live he was dead within 6 month. In the 30 years I have lived here I have gone through four dödsbo. The last one I swore never again because fed up with repairs so bought one off a living owner. He died before hand over. IMO having a goal or unrealised ambition keeps hope alive.
