London Liveaboard

Having read many of the messages posted here I'm excited that it's obviously possible to live on a boat! I would be very grateful if anyone can send me details of residentail moorings in/near London, or indeed moorings where permanent residence on a boat is accepted. I work near Tooting, so a mooring up river would be preferable to East London (I think?!?). If anyone has an idea of mooring fees for any of their suggestions, that would be even better! I would have an 'official' permanent residence elsewhere and probably spend an average 5 nights per week or so on board.

Cheers! Dawn

Yes its possible. However, its expensive and the marinas are very strict. Most pleasure marinas won't let you spend more than a couple or three nights on board.

Liveaboard moorings are like hen's teeth and you'll probably find yourself on the end of a long waiting list.

This all presumes you already own a suitable vessel to live on. That you don't mind cramped enclosed spaces, damp, people viewing your home as a picnic amenity, toilet, area to sunbathe etc!

Not trying to put you off here. I had the same idea, but my wife has put me off it!. She is a little more practical than me.

Having said all that, I haven't tried to liveaboard in London., but I do live right next to my boat in Exeter and see what happens!

In the long run, its not likely to be any cheaper than renting I am afraid.

Rgds,

Nick
