Compared with you boys and your big boats! ;)

It will be a lot of hard earned pennies and saving to be able to get something like it!!

Us girls like our boats as well :D

Indeed, and thanks again.

Nice to find that they've got it wrong in the right direction though (if you see what I mean), means I've got more time than I thought.

I shall start the stopwatch at Paddington this year and report back progress so we can inform future would be show goers with perfect accuracy should this topic crop up again.

Always assuming that there is another show of course...

Paddington to Excel, just under an hour, mainly due to delays and slow running on the tube.

Left with plenty of time in hand, at every station the train was waiting, I stepped on and it left!

39 minutes dead. Amazing.

Good to have another reason to go, IMHO.
Is it right the Boatshow/Excel agreement end this year?
Hats off to those in the industry who made the investment to attend.I fear though that this is falling below a critical mass. From a tender upwards, it used to be a great opportunity to see competing products, but no more-not through lack of effort on behalf of organisers or those who were there showing their wares, but I guess UK PLC just isnt spending what it used to.

Not sure i agree there - it was light on boats with many of the big names not attending, but hey - how often do you buy a brand new yacht? All the major bling manufacturers seemed to be there - we spent a happy couple of hours researching chartplotters.

I went along yesterday and found it mostly very quiet. Great for having a good look around even the sunseeker stand wasn't busy so I finally had a look at some of those.
Liked the new Princess v39, but wasn't impressed by the new fairline tagra 38 - very cramped rear cabin
Spent quite a while outside looking at the 2nd hand stuff. Found the Essex boat Yards people very helpful but they didn't persuade swmbo (damn!)
Judging by the amount of exotic cars and hot tubs on display, unless there is a big economic improvement in the next 3 years I will be surprised if there will still be a london show.....

Don't agree with that. Off the top of my head, these are some of the manufacturers that have exhibited in the past and are not there this year- Azimut, Cranchi, Grand Banks, Fleming, Trader, Beneteau, Botnia, Karnic, Nimbus, Windy, SeaRay. Somebody flame me if any of the above were there and I missed them but thats an awful lot of big names missing. Also there were very few sailing yachts. Half of one hall is given over to a pushbike show and some of the space in the boat hall is taken up by cars and other fripperies. In effect, LIBS this year is the FairPrinSeeker show with even Sealine scaling back their presence.
Having said that, we went yesterday and had a good time. Its actually quite pleasant to be able to park under Excel w/o any problem and wander around the aisles unimpeded. The exhibitors were all very welcoming and clearly many are desperate for business but if you're going there in the hope of seeing a wide selection of different boats, you'll be disappointed and isn't that why people go to boat shows?

A boat show "light on boats..."
I think you articulated it better than me ;)

but, in fairness, on how many occasions in the last ten years have you purchased a brand new yacht? On how many occasions have you purchased a new pair of deck shoes, new fender, new boathook, new instrument, new almanac, etc. etc.?

I'm reasonably willing to bet that the latter significantly outweighs the former - in which case the LIBS should have met most people's requirements!

Well, for myself, over the past 10 years I can honestly say that for every pair of deck shoes I have bought, I have also bought a brand new boat... but then again, I do wear trainers a lot.

Cheers

You'd be mad to buy chandlery stuff at LIBS as the prices are jacked up to pay for the stand costs. Don't know about anybody else but I go to boatshows to look at boats to get ideas for what I might like to buy in the future when they come on the secondhand market so its a bit disappointing when there are only 4 or 5 manufacturers there showing boats I want to see

LIBS in decline?

Went last night and ended up quite disappointed with the amount of boats there. several manufacturers admitted holding back the launch of new products to Dusseldorf or that they have sent their more attractive boats there because "it is now a much better show...."
