Hi, I'm hoping someone may be able to help me or at least point me in the right direction.

Having spent a few years working on other peoples boats, I thought it was about time to build one for myself. Being a little sentimental, and possibly a little foolish, I'm looking for a traditional craft from my area, of large dinghy to day sailer size. I live in Emsworth, Chichester Harbour.
I've caught odd mentions of both Emsworth One Designs and Chichester Harbour One Designs. Are there more traditional designs that are or were based in the area, and where would I possibly find plans. I'm quite happy to build in either carvel or clinker planking, just looking for a traditional shape with a little history...
Any suggestions or help would be very welcome, thanks.

Royal Navy adopted the Island class dinghy in 1936. It was a nice clinker design that would be acceptable at sea and in estuaries (abt 14 ft) and the design was then renamed the RNSA dinghy.

At itchenor they sail x boats and Swallows and Victory Class keel boats, dont recall any local working craft except flat bottom barges and two wrecks in Emsworth;which where related to fishing.

Sounds like you need to build an Emsworth Oyster Boat !
These open clinker boats were about 14 -15' long, 5' 6" beam and were used for dredging for oysters in Chichester and Langstone harbours.
Usually rowed upwind, they had a tall narrow lugs'l stepped well forward. The Bosham boats were similar, but with less sheer. A small foredeck and a tray aft for sorting the dredged oysters. Some had center boards, but most relied upon an approx 18" false keel for lateral resistance.
