There can be a degree of cross sensitivity in sensors to different gases. It is known that hydrogen will trigger a CO monitor giving false CO alarms.

Known in this household as 'Burnt toast alarms'.

And that reminds me to avoid the Brussels sprouts....

Gave me warning the the gases coming out of the battery! Having worked offshore I know what H2S smells like and that maybe was one of the components?

You seem very defensive. R u sure you are not just trying to calm something inside your own mind.

If ever there appears some evidence otherwise I’d be glad of the debate and discussion. Until then it’s just rabbid fear mongering from some on this forum. Myself and others will continue to correct and discredit them every time.

Personally I’d like to see the forum admin team blocking such unfounded threads, especially those with no link to boating whatsoever. They did block Neeves from his own thread so perhaps they’re coming around to the idea.

H2S .... mmmm a serious factor in my work ... where we cover a lot of Fuel Oil and Crude.

Problem with H2S .. if you can smell it - you are already over the Lower Threshold Limit .. and very quickly your sense of smell will be deadened and you will think you are in clear air again ...

When I was a Cadet .. I was doing Water soundings of cargo tanks on a VLCC (200,000 tonner) .... I was with the Chief Officer ... we completed the stbd side tanks and were working down the port side tanks .... next thing I know - I'm flat on my back - legs through either side of stanchion of ships rail ...
I had stupidly allowed myself to be downwind of the vapour exiting the cargo tank ... and Ch Off noticed me losing coordination ... and he literally threw me across the deck ...

Boy did I have the most stinking hangover afterwards ... a parting gift of H2S mixed with HC vapours ..
