Lifejackets - manual or automatic?

Why is there so much concern about this?

One simply leaves such details to one's man - who is required to hand over the correct solution at the time - and simply dismisses him if he has taken the wrong choice. In the event of a catastrophic event then his employment is automatically terminated.

You of course may hold an opposite opinion - its called freedom - but boats should be fitted with all types so the correct choice can be made for the type of hazard one is likely to encounter so I have fixed foam, inflatable foam, manual harness, manual inflatable harness and auto inflatable harness on board.

In the "Liferaft Capacity" thread one of the concerns was trying to keep the lifejacket from inflating in a partially inflated, water-logged raft.
