Following on from the many interesting debates on here the last week or so - I have been to both shows for the last few years and enjoyed them both in a slightly different way.
I agree that Sibs is a great way to view boats, particularly if you are in a position to buy, but also find Libs great fun, and a good way of keeping abreast of the market whilst not worrying about the weather. My main point is this:
Half of the sibs show is currently held on a park owned by the council, the other half on a series of car parks owned by I'm not sure who.
Word on the street from my contacts in Southampton (local residents) is that there are plans to develop the car park site in such a way that it could no longer be used by the boat show.
Now I appreciate that in the current climate this may not happen very soon, but as soon as there is an upturn the Sibs guys may find half the site out of bounds. I can't see anywhere else for them to go unless they move upstream and use the commercial docks. Of course I may be talking bo££ocks, but I did wonder about what might happen in that scenario.
