This is specially for Pete 7 who is constantly disappointed at the absence of anchor threads.

Lewmar have the bit between the teeth and seem determined to dominate the anchor market (and why not?)

The latest iteration an unweighted fluke anchor, call it a Danforth look alike, made from High Tensile steel, available at a store near you, certainly if you live in America - but presumably to fill shelves in the rest of the world later

There appears to be money to be made selling anchors.

There are crazy prices out there. I have spied a tiddly anchor on my new purchase that I know I will not be happy with as it is the same size as my last anchor. (chain aside) And I have jumped up in tonnage by x2.5. !

Ah!

The trouble is - you are a well known personage here, with a stalwart reputation - if you want to sell your anchor you obviously don't like it - so why would anyone buy it? :)

No - you need to keep up! :)

The Fortress is aluminium this new one is galvanised high tensile steel, its a Danforth copy not a Fortress copy. They already have a Fortress copy the LFX - Pete7 will tell you there have been numerous threads on Lewmar's explosion of anchors, don't forget the Epsilon (much talked about - never seen).

You need to read more anchor threads! :)

Hi it’s just normally the prices are outrageous -as an owner of a20kg Lewmar delta I have been looking around for an alternative but they all seem a lot for a roll bar version whichever make.

I was being flippant

I really cannot comment on prices in the UK, in fact prices are your dilemma - you have to decide. Most complain about prices and then I see people buying Ultra anchors. It is a marvellous product and looks stunning but.....

I cannot believe you are going to do much anchoring in the next few weeks unless you live in Surrey/Gosport next to Sydney (Australia), where its a rather pleasant summer - so be patient but you could ring Jimmy Green and ask for an update on the new Epsilon (from Lewmar) delivery. I know nothing about it (but it has the right credentials) is 'apparently' competitively priced.

I'm not endorsing the Epsilon - simply drawing it to your attention.

If you get an update - post on YBW - there are a number of members here in your exact same position.

It looks remarkably like the Danforth, which I replaced with a Fortress, simply because it gave the same holding capability at one third of the weight. Why would I want to go back to "heavy"? For clarification, this is not my "first use" anchor, mainly because it cannot self stow on the bow roller, so it tends to be used as a second anchor, where a lesser weight is a big advantage if laying it out by dinghy.
 
Many thanks Neeves - yes we are safely afloat at Haslar Gosport but unless you are Alex Thomson not much sailing going on down there. Not really going out anchor shopping but I guess I haven’t worked out which25kg I would buy with a roll bar and whether the differential is worth it . I do look with envy of some of the sales adds for sailing our boat in your part of the world .

But the link in post 1 quotes an anchor weight of 8lbs for my 33ft. Which is less than the recommended Fortress and this one is steel. Something doesn't seem right.
 
Just seen the Epsilon in Cactus, its a strange looking anchor with the "fin" on the underside, will be interesting to see how well it resets with the fin. I am sure there will be advantages and disadvantages

Hi Jonathan, do you have any ‘inside information’ about the efficacy of the Epsilon ?
 
After the hype about the Epsilon it's surprising that the rule -of -thumb Lewmar tables show virtually the same size recommendation for the new variety as they do for the Delta .(Looking at the 10kg : 27 feet min to 43 feet max) . Perhaps the inevitable practical tests will reveal a difference,apart from those of shape re.handling.
I'm glad I gave up waiting for the Epsilon and went for a Kobra instead. This still fits the Lewmar extended rollers .The finish on the other hand is poor.
