I have noticed that the entrance to SYH has been a little shallow recently. I don't know if it has always been this way, but the last 2 trips happened to be at low tide and I was seeing 1.9m centre channel.

Yesterday I had to move out of the centre channel, was still about 15ft inside the green posts and the depth dropped quickly to an indicated 1.4m. (still 1hr before LW) Fortunately my lifting keel got me out ok, but it did surprise me a little.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Been known to happen before - we hit the speed bump a few times when we wintered there.
They usually get the dredger in Jan/Feb time.

Ipswich port have recently finished thier dredging of the channel in preparation of the new larger ships. IIRC the spoil is dumped in the vicinity of Suffolk Yacht Harbour which may explain the silting up of the entrance channel.

Something for thier dredger to sort out in the new year assuming that it doesn't sink again.
