agree with you. If somebody wants to get their shoes all smelly and horrible, thats up to them, I would prefer to be comfortable, warm and slightly less smelly, and if anybody doesnt like it they can go jump of the pontoon.
There was a series about knots in S.T. a year or two back;one of them was for leather deckie laces.
IIRC - begin the knot as normal, form the first loop, then pass the end round twice before forming the second loop. Needs to be worked a bit until it is tight.
Must be the leather used. Been a C17th re-enactor for 24 years and not noticed a regular problem with laces. Straight square thong, no chrome glaze or any of that modern nonsense. I could probably find some for any real sufferers in return for a couple of quid to the RNLI.
