Last outing

All very envious of your Florida weather, Arthur. It's bl**dy frezing here today, wintery showers ( I seem to remember they called 'em Snashers in the US) forecast by end iof week. Just right for a cruise to Swanage!

Yeh we get Eye-rak stuff as well, with Mr Bush's poodle in Downing Street beating the war drums.

Well, it's raining and 68F here today so too cold to work on the boat:-)
I have the feeling that Tony Poodle is probably a moderating influence on Bushie, so don't revile him too much - or am I wrong?

Tone

I think it all comes down to the fact that politics is not just about what is good for the people.....in fact I am not sure it has anything to do with it at all!
However just about any two people will move more carefully than one................

All Set?

Those that are coming to Poole on Saturday, are you all geared up?

Looks at the moment that the weather may improve a bit. Those strong easterlys should ease off a bit. It's been F6 at times, an easterly F6 would be impossible in my little tub. Don't mind a face full of spray in the summer, but this time of year, no thanks.

Re: All Set?

Well I'll be there friday morn/lunch time. So I'll go and test the water for you so to speak! It'll not be too bad the weather forcast that I got said that the winds will be southerly to southwesterly 3-4, So thats not too bad really, just pack an extra set of thermals!!

Re: All Set?

I admit to being in two minds.

Wife not at all keen about donning waders for the launch (even though I promised to fill with hot baked beans). We have all got stinking colds, youngest son wants to go and see father christmas and weather forecast is far from encouraging. Apart from this I am still quite keen!

Will look at the weather forecast tonight and make decision after this.

Re: All Set?

go on...do it... you know ya wanna' !!

when your sat in the bar, full of food, port in your hand, you'll have no worries... apart from going back to sea in the freezing cold!!

see ya there, steve.

two minds

the only two minds should be "do I get into Phaeton with duncan or Two Ladies with barry for a quick blast round Poole harbour on Saturday...........
a close second would be lager or bitter but it is a second!

see you there!

Re: two minds

Re: All Set?

Had a beer or three, had good company, had good food even nearly had to have clean underwear at one point! Brilliant weekend, would do it again if anyone was up for it, but on the whole I think this was the Last outing before the new years eve jolly.

A sureal feeling on leaving Dolphin Haven Saturday night/Sunday morning. It was peeing down with rain, pitch black and blowing a gale'ish, to the horror of some people getting into warm cabs and heated cabins. Excellent meeting, looking forward to the Newton Creek meeting next year. Thanks chaps and chapesses. Still haven't worked out whose idea this was, but good call that man.

A good time was had by all?

Thoroughly enjoyed the trip guys, and an enjoyable trip out in Duncan's Phaeton. A surprise package indeed. Theresa really enjoyed the apres sail as I am sure you could tell. We had a lovely trip out on Cols Sunseeker on Sunday morning, just as we were sneaking out of the Marina, we spotted Geoff and hailed him to see if he wanred to come along. Just as we tied up again to allow him onboard, Adrian, SWMBO & kids turned up and they joined in too, and although one of his kids turned decidedly green at one point it was a good run out and a better run back in, surfing the boat on the swells. Adrian took a few more pics, which I guess will make their way on to Tony's site sooner or later.

Thanks again for a couple of enjoyable days. What a difference from pootling around on the Broads.

So, collectively we managed it! good to see you all again, i spent a while looking through the post to find out whos idea it was (so as to lay the blame in the correct proportions) but alas, it's a long un'.

thanks to all who came, and made an enjoyable weekend.. even more pleasant.

newtown creek? there's lots of bumpy water on the way there!

see you all again soon.

That return....

I still haven't managed to work out how we managed contact with (a) a boat - but a fendered contact (b) a green withie - you have promised to return the green paint once you get it of your rubbing strip and (c) the bottom - although I stick to my story so far that I was just checking your claim to only draw 30cm - all on a quiet return, in good weather, 2130h, two up in the boat and after just a couple of beers yet the early return from Dolphin Haven, in less than ideal conditions, each single handed, after at least a couple of beers (!) went faultlessly.
Conclusion so far is either 2 boat owners in one boat do not make a good team or 2 DGPS chart plotters - one set to a 10m rolling road 'clear route' and the other a normal map turn poor conditions into a 'walk in the park'.

Other lessons from the weekend -
2.5lt of mulled wine is not enough for 15
can't drink lager all day without slowing down significantly
heaters make for wonderfully welcoming enviroments - thanks col
downstairs 'lounges' do have a place on boats and are not a waste of space
phrases like 'give that large red buoy a wide berth' need clarification when addressed to non boat owners!
and finally - you don't need good weather to enjoy a boating weekend; just good company...........roll on Newton Creek!

Re: That return....

You certainly have watch what you say.

I was in a crowded bar a while back, and said 'Let's go down the south beach, see if we can pick up a buoy'. Did I get some funny looks? Wouldn't have been surprised if I'd been arrested. I wonder if claiming I meant B.U.O.Y would have been a defence.
