I'm off to Largs in a few weeks for a mate's stag weekend. We're chartering a Sunsail yacht (and skipper). Not having sailed there before, does anyone have any recommendations for destinations, good pubs, or anything else on the subject?

Cheers

David

Aye go West and North head up the Kyles of Bute they are beautiful

Go to Rothesay ( pronounce Rossy) Use the pontoons in the main harbour the ones on the outside marked visitors may be closed this time of year and they are covered in seagull shit and slippy.
Harbour master is nice bloke if you call up he will let you know.
plenty of pubs The black Bull does a nice pint plus there's the lovely toilets (you will see when you get there. ) Zavaronis cafe for breakfast

East loch Tarbert is worth a visit. do the entrance during the daytime if poss. it looks a bit intimidating coming in but is ok. cannot rememeber if that might not be a bit far tho for a weekend. Rothessay and Lamlash are no probs. Lamlash only good if you want to row ashore, the hotle is maean't to be nice but there is only one.

if you want to stay at anchor at the end of the kyles of Bute there is a hotel you can go ashore at. I have no experience or knowledge of that so check with SS.
or you can head south to lamlash on arranpick up mooring or anchor.
the boats all have pilotage notes.

but Rothesay and and Tarbert have a variety of bars. troon is not brilliant have only been to the bar at the marina and not to the pubs in town.
the marina bar which is also used by departing celtic and rangers fans and can be intimidating if both or either are there.
but the yacht club does have a sauna which if you ask they will turn on for you to be hot at an appointed time.

there were pilotage notes on east loch tarbert in PBO a few months ago.
pm me if you want more.

I am up there soon too. can't wait.
claymore will also have more and better info than me .

I organised almost exactly the same thing (bareboat) for my brother's stag last May. We had 11 people aboard two 36ft boats from Sunsail. The weekend was a huge success. We arrived at Largs Fri evening, ate in the bar at the marina and then motored (headwind) across to Rothesay, just in time to visit it's two very dubious night clubs! With sore heads on Saturday we sailed up through the Kyles of Bute (stunning) and stopped at the pub at Kames for lunch. Then continued south toTarbert for the inevitable pub crawl etc. Sunday was an easy sail back to Largs, arriving early afternoon. Totally recommend the whole thing - Sunsail very relaxed and easy to deal with - boats (last year) getting a bit tired but who cares for a stag weekend! Only thing to watch is that Rothesea can get quite full and you might have to raft alongside the fishing boats.

This being a Stag Weekend

You'll not be wanting to get involved with the drinking and the women. More about a celebration of the Brotherhood and Friendship you have enjoyed along the years. I would recommend the following itinerary. A lunchtime anchor among the Burnt Isles and a group swim around the boat - naked of course - a gesture to your collective manhood.

A light lunch of Cottage cheese, apple and celery before sailing to Loch Ranza for the overnight anchorage. Stay out by the mouth of the Loch as the swell rolls you more there. Evening meal, conversation and early lights out aboard.

Sunday - Up at 05:00 and sail for Ardrishaig. Anchor and row ashore in time for the 10:00 Kirk Service.

Return aboard for light lunch and more social intercourse before return via S Tip of Bute thus completing circumnavigation.

17:00 hrs Depart.
A stimulating and rewarding itinerary as I'm sure you will agree.

'Ye've brocht a tear tae m'auld eye - Jings mon ah've missed ye.'

You have torn my *****(deleted for reasons of taste) eye. My Jings have been missing you ( jings cannot be directly translated but looslely means my bretheren of the nether region)

Ah've bein heerin aboot yer sorties oot wi wee Jimi an he's leadin ye astray wi ra wine.

I have binned the Herring. A boot with urine in it from Jimi sorted it. Wine puts lead in your ashtray.

''ye think I'm fit tae gang oer ra watter then?'

Do you think i am fit to gang rape an otter?

'I've got ye pencilled in fer 3rd May weekend if ye fancy a wee skirl aroon ra Loch.'

I have got your pencil in fur. The weekedn of May the 3rd do you fancy a small skirt round my open water.

Lang may yer lumb reek on anither fellers coal.

***** Unrepeatable
