Well thats a bit - not in my back yard - is it not. Presumably they have to transport the cans of petrol on the road - at the risk of other road users? So why is OK to ignore their plight?

I loath beareuacrats and Health and saftey much of the time, however this is one of the most sensible regulation going. So I would ask the Marina to ban it totally (except 5ltrs). If they won't then go to the firebrigade - Its not just you in the marina that is at risk.....

As I said in one of my previous posts, I have an intense diskile of H&SE busybodying, but I do have a healthy respect for extremely flamable materials, and a healthy regard for the health and safety of myself and my fellow human beings.

The Fire Prevention Officer, at the OP's location would be the way to go really. Most of the ones of my aquaintance have been reasonable and diplomatic chaps, that know their business well, but he may deem it necessary to inform the H&SE of the situation, if he feels that his advice may be ignored. I have been a very long time out of the service, so am not up to speed on these matters, so I will say no more.

Crusty - what about the transport of petrol TO the marina - that is probably the most dangerous leg of the journey. Do we ingnore the road user as they are out of site?

Shame the OP never came back and told us what happened in the end. That is assuming the OP is still alive and wasn´t killed (along with hundreds of others) in a huge inferno at his marina caused by those pesky speedboaters.

Ban the lot of them, thats what I say.

If there is a serious stink of petrol, they are handling the stuff ineptly.
If they were careful there would be much less of a problem.
We refuel our safety boats from jerry cans, if you have the right gear the only spillage is a couple of drips from the spout when you have finished.
Petrol is pretty safe if treated with respect.
Personally I would fill my (small) outboard tank while moored in a marina, rather than risk spillage do it at sea or whatever. If I spilt enough to cause anyone a problem, I'd be upset!

Restrictions on refuelling are likely to be on pollution grounds. I would like to see everybody taking more care about spillages, especially fishing boats!

If it's a bunch of lads (of any age!) it's difficult for any of them to say 'we need to be more careful'. So a polite word from the management asking them to take more care could keep everyone reasonably happy.

If I were buying a powerboat/RIB right now, I would go for removable tanks to avoid all the transfer/spillage issues.

More scaremongering on your part I'm afraid. His final post said:

Doesn't sound scared off to me? The only thing he was scared of was going up in an inferno caused by speedboaters, despite the complete lack of evidence that speedboaters are really so dangerous they need to be banned right this minute.

Not a case of not in my backyard,
People are going to fill their boats from jerry cans whether we like it or not,all i am saying is if your going to do that at least do it away from others so as to minimise any risk,
