anybody got a sensible source for adhesive plastic dymo type labels. A quick google came up with some at the utterly ridiculous price of £20. Maybe 10 times what they should be.

Think I saw a Dymo machine in Aldi for about that money. You could go mad all over the boat! (came with a few reels of tape)

I have a Dymo labeller ...

I fixed to the clutches - all fell off within days ...

I fixed to the switch panel as I identified switches ... fell off about a month later ..

I fixed to helm console on my mobo .... fell off within days ...

What's happened to Dymo labels ?? I used them years ago on my Alacrity and Snapdragon masts ... even on my present 25ft'r when I got her over 20yrs ago ... they stuck - stayed and also did not fade ...
 
I usually get 3 seasons from Brother P-Touch/TZ labels on clutches. I've bought the unbranded tapes with mixed results during actual printing but no discernable difference in life outside.
 
If you search you can also find small printers that print from an app on your iPhone etc. it gives more variety but don’t know cost. We use a brother type bought maybe from Lidl many years ago.

The ones on Blush were still going strong at 18 years when we sold her.

I get 4 from white insulation tape and black marker pen.🤣

We got one of those years ago, and it's still going strong. We put the labels on the clutches soon after buying the boat in 2016, and they are still in good readable condition, but they are under the spray hood, so won't get weathered.

As well as labeling the clutch handles, I also put labels in front of each one, where the rope comes out, so when the clutch is open you can still see what it is.
 
I use an ordinary laser printer printing black rectangles with white writing onto heavy duty waterproof laser labels. These are a plasticky material. They look like what you'd stick on an envelope but are waterproof. They take the black well so they match the clutch handles. If I take care to size the black rectangles correctly I can just guillotine round them and stick them on the clutches.

Doing it that way I can size the print in my wordprocessor to suit the clutches. I also use them for red fire extinguisher placards for locker doors, a notice on the plotter frame to remind the crew how the depth sounder reads, etc.

You can get loads of labels on a single A4 sheet and they last a long time. The only problem is that they come in boxes of a size that could do the clutches on half of the boats in Cowes Week. A lifetime supply for me.
 
The Spinlock basic ones are about £6 from most chandlers - I've used those and they seem to have lasted pretty well and much less faff than printing your own.
