the one i went to was great. Can't remeber the name tho. It is v close to the old clocktower. MichaelE is your man in la rochelle. It's the one with loads of alternative rooms/bar areas, and even a map to explain how to get from to the other.
Lunch at the Bellvarde or was it Bellvue? Any massive newish build standalone restaurant overlooking the bridge to ile de Re, v close to the airport. That was fab.
Probably the best sea food restaurant is Andre's in Rue st jean du Perot... If you have your back to the Grosse Horloge Arch and cross over the lights passing the cinema on the right with the Vieux port on the left - Rue St Jean ... is the first on the right.
Andre's is owned by a LR family with their own fishing boats - it is very big and very successful... The best restaurants in town are in Rue st jean du Perot but be warned they are also priced like that. The Parisians use them...
The Yachtie bar in town is Fitzpatricks on the Quai Duperre' - again with your back to the grosse horloge arch turn left - past the BNP Paris Bas bank and walk past the cafe's with the vieux port and twin towers on your right... about 50 metres along you will find the Irish cafe with chairs and tables outside (all the other cafes have this as well) It has a signs in English and French outside.. You normally will find the UK liveaboards, wintering UK yachts and visiting UK yachts crews in there...
Bar that took my fancy was "Les Pissenlits par la Racine", facing the inner harbour.
(Name based on french euphemism for someone dead, and therefore eating his dandelions by the roots.)
