The last one I went to (my brother's) the guests were all given drinks and canapes on the hotel terrace where we could watch the photographer at work and were in range to be grabbed for the necessary poses. Seemed to work very well.

We did that for our wedding. Paid out for the good stuff for the canapés and didn't even see them! Blinking relatives.

Crossing from Cromer to the Humber took all the night – we had supper in the cockpit and then the wind chipped upo from the stern

I went to bed and slept for four hours – when I fell asleep the boat was doing six knots

when I woke she was doing the same – but for most of Roger’s two hours we were becalmed – apparently

we crossed the Humber traffic zone this morning and sat around waiting for wind

I held on for as long as possible but eventually the engine had to go on so we are motoring at five knots towards scarborough to hide from tonight’s storm

flat calm now though

This is great fun. With reports on Spirit of Frodo's trip south and Harmony's trip north it's like vicariously doing two trips at the same time.

Its better being in harbour wishing you were at sea, than at sea wishing you were in harbour.

Coz that's where the pubs are!

Enjoy your run ashore, I got storm bound and hung over there some years ago, briil, feels like you are playing truant!!!!

Any fishing going on? I cannot see any lines hanging off of the back in any of your snaps.

I would have thought that you could have had a couple of stone of kippers smoked by now. A smokehouse on the foredeck is a great way to occupy the off watch crew.

Sun dried hanging on the rail is the way, rub with salt and hang til chewy, the way the Vast Kusten Swedes used to, out on the skerries- mind, you have to share with the gulls.
Dylans Centaur has a fair bit of guard rail, after all, and winch handles to flog them orf

me mate john is a keen fisherman

but I would rather eat spam

I love seeing the fish, keep them as pets, but eating them - pah - too many bones, greasy things,

and as for eating giant crabs and squirmy snails

not for me

I like my meat to have lived a sad life in captivity before being loaded ibnto a truck for a short journey to a brutal end

Oh, Dylan, you don't like fresh crab, winkles, whelks, cockles(and you an EastCoaster), you don't know what you're giving up, hours of fun, cracking claws and legs, hooking out the flesh, sipping cool white wine, a Guiness or a 1664 blanche, 3 hours just fly by.

Oily(Omega 3) fish are supposed to be good for you too, and if you wrap them in kitchen foil, with some jumbo rolled oats, then grill/fry them, the oil gets soaked into the oats, they don't taste oily, and the pan is easier to clean.

All those poor little lambkins in the field behind us, destined for Lingfield abbatior, then shipped off for your lamb korma, instead of our freezer:sorrow:
Do you prefer Halal or boltgun killed after stunning, they say the bolt gun stresses the meat less, even after stunning.
Certainly, I had to help a friend and the Special Services man herd and cull 30+ ewes during the last great sheep meat scandal, a few years back. They were very peaceful/relaxed right up to the final moment.
What a waste tho', couldn't give the carcasses away, even the Hunt wanted money for them.

So will you be reporting on the fleshpots of Scarborough, by reference to the quality of their T-bone steaks, chips, peas, onion rings and lamb kormas, whilst waiting out this blow- are you salivating yet:D

arrived too late for any local food - had a shower, a pint in the yacht club, then back to the boat for pitta bread, cheese, baked beans, tinned sausages

tomorrow night though we will dine out somewhere

What storm? I think you have placed too much reliance on a long range forecast.

Coastguard put out a 24 hour inshore waters strong wind warning Wed afternoon , 5-7 poss gale 8 for a while
That is not a long range forecast
Taking refuge in light of that seems sensible to me
Mind you I have little faith in some Met office " predictions" !!!!

nasty looking day here

dunno about your rufty tufty sailing exploits but as an inveterate coward a seven on the nose is enough to have me running for cover

we had some squalls and lots of rain just after dawn - it was very comforting to be firmly attached to a pontoon

easing down now

so it was a pretty good call via windguru yesterday

we only have 120 miles to go and until the end of the bank holiday before the blokes go back so a layday in the rain is no bad thing

wet boats can be miserable places

we have lekkie and are about to head for a big fat breakfast at the cafe above the fish dock

Good stuff gents.

But hardly cowardice to be sat in port in a 7. Sounds like good seamanship to me.

Do they still reenact the battle of the river plate in one of the parks there? Can see it appealing to any lover of British eccentricity.

Just looked and unless you're weatherbound till Saturday you'll miss it.

http://thedms.discoveryorkshirecoas...are/details/?dms=3&feature=1003&venue=1710588

just looked that up - looks like fun

heading North tomorrow

leaving at the top of the tide to ride the ebb North - so a nice easy start

last night we went into the yacht club here for a pint - we were asked what we were doing and expressed our delight and pleasure about our sailing for four days and three nights -

one of the club members - a lady - said that it was most refreshing to hear people who had good fun on passage - she said that most people who walk into the bar like to have a good moan/brag about sailing through force nine gales and mountainous seas.

The whole experience has been wonderful. I confess that I had a slight fear of night sailing until this trip but now that we have successfully navigated a new to us yacht through some of the most crowded and shoaling waters around out coast I feel that a 36 hour journey to Shetland is very doable.

we have been dead lucky that none of suffer from seasickness and sleep very well when the boat is sailing on through the night with a bloke you trust sitting in the cockpit.

Roger has turned out to be excellent company - high energy, witty, never loses his enthusiasm for life and for boats. If any of you delivery people need a man who knows how to get along with other blokes and sail a boat....good man

personally it has been very weird eating all those miles that I savoured and sipped in my little boat. In four days and three nights we travelled the same length of coast it took me five years to explore in my little boats

the Centaur is growing on me

Definitely what you needed after all that posh nosh on board during your long voyage! Well done to Skipper and Crew for making it to Scarborough. Your trip has made me nostalgic for my old Westerly Tiger that would have loved that adventure, but visits to Scarborough were always with the ex and her parents so I would rather forget that, thanks.

Onwards and upwards (literally). Enjoy the rest of the journey and I'm looking forward to the video. Bet it will be an epic.
