On my power boat i currently have 40 metres of anchor chain in the anchor locker. Every time, we come to deploy the anchor, it gets stuck, and only about 3 metres is deployed.

Does any one have a sollution to prevent this from happening?

I have had suggested to me that stainless steel chain will do the trick?

What do you think?

How strange!!
Are you sure your existing chain is calibrated chain and that it's the correct chain for the windlass.
Maybe the shape of the locker it goes into causes knotting...try a wooden plate to build it up.
I have never heard of this problem before and it has in fact always amazed me that it doesn't happen.
Can't see why SS will fix the problem and also sounds expensive.

I have the same problem. Usualy after going through a lumpy sea. I think the chain jumps in the air, turns upside down and lands in a knot. Have not stayed in anchor locker in a blow long enough to study it. It also goes down a slot under the locker door. Keep thinking of putting a piece of wood in it.

Our anchor chain locker is huge, but the boat was built with a big fibreglass divider between the anchor locker and fender locker (through the same hatch). I can just get my arm in there, but i don't think theres enough angle to get a piece of wood in there!!

p.s. do you know how you can get a picture inserted on the left of the screen??

I had the same problem - Now sorted.
I had a ring of stainless steel made some 2 feet diameter, then attached a canvas bag to the ring - the daimeter if the bottom of the bag being about 1 foot and resting on the chain locker floor. The ring was then suspended from the top of the Chain locker on small pieces of chain attached to brackets in turn attached to the underside of fairleads, the winch and any other "topside" bolt that came into the locker.

It is important to work out the volume required but a bit of graph papar, some scale drawing and of course container to work out the volume of the chain by displacement easily do this.

Good luck!!
