KF2 record not likely

Ellen MacArthur and her crew on Kingfisher 2 look unlikely to achieve a record time around the world. Although their web site and news output compare times with the holder Orange (actually the same boat), the fact is that the very experienced Olivier de Kersauson and crew in the trimaran Geronimo are ahead at every marker. Of course, anything can happen to anybody.
The problem for KF2 arose before the start of the voyage which was announced as not departing before 15 January. This cut out the favourable weather on which Geronimo got away before that date.

I'm afraid you're probably right. If it were just Orange they were racing then I would say that the still stood a good chance. IIRC Orange lost a bit of time on the trip back up from the Horn.

However Geronimo simply seems to be a faster boat, and has had no back luck with the weather. If nothing goes wrong we could well see Geronimo breaking the 60 day mark.
