Thanks but not heard of that locally,I am loath to go to gyms as it’s all that changing clothes and shoes?

Hi there Mr W well at the one I went to no one changed clothes at all , well took their coats off ; but most turned up in casual wear , gym shoes /soft shoes etc ; these Physio in the Gym are not real keep fit classes but to help us who have goton a bit rusty in our muscels etc e practise doing actions like walking on Toes , Heels , etc that we would not normally do ourselves ; go on take a chance , you can only get better or just improove yourself {:))#

Yes, I always change at home to save time (I often use lunch breaks for gym), in London rarely rains, but even then, I use sports shoes so they are easy to wipe anyway.

I sympathise with a late club mate who told me that he was against any form of exercise, ever since his wife went off with her personal trainer.

Forgo the gardener, drive past the car wash, grow some vegetables, disconnect the electric winch and windlass, sell the outboard and buy some oars + kayak and paddle, forget dictation and do your own typing, do your own antifouling - most of these unless you lived miles from a garden and your yacht were necessary activities during the pandemic - who has time for a gym. Not enough - give your wife a break - vacuum the floors and wash the windows - weekly - no need to take up ironing you do not have time and a waste of electricity.

Or - its not too late - sail round the UK and follow Concerto's lead

Your grandfather did most of these tasks, except he wrote not typed - why not you.?

And if you don't complete some of these everyday (or every week) tasks - no wonder you are flabby and need to go to the gym! :)

But then you were not expecting any sympathy from me.

Absolutely agreed. Exercise should be built into one's daily routine, not added on as some kind of conscience-mollifier. I'm willing to bet that my almost daily walk does me far more good than if I paid someone to supply some machine that made my pulse rate do whatever their computer says it should. Exercise should either be essential or enjoyable if it is to have any moral virtue, which in these days I suppose means be good for one's 'mental health'.

My favourite exercise was very enjoyable but immoral.

I'm really sorry you have had to use the past tense.

As johnalison mentions exercise should be good for your mental as well as physical health and immorality offers so much variation.

Or were you referring to rowing (without a lifejacket) or you have found an even better diversion ....... ??

Just reached age of 76 last week so chasing crumpet is historical. By the time I caught one now doubt if any energy left. :( Feeling quite knackered at the moment, 2 days with breaker chiseling ceramic tiles off concrete floor, self leveling compound down this morning and then laminate floor to lay next week.

Yes quite so , in normal times , but those two years of enforced Lock Down resulted in very many of us not being allowed to perform many of the normal activities that we were used to doing ; The Police if you recall , were busy taking into custody many who ventured out to go for a walk , sit and see the Sunsets etc etc ; the Police in some areas were quite busy detaining us , when we were just trying to be acting normally (for us) ; That depriving us of our Normal activities resulted in many of us requiring some Physio taught light excersises , not the REAL Gym excersises but a form of reawakening of our natural abilities ; theses Lock Down restrictins certainly effected many persons Mental Health as well as Physical Well Being .

Guess if you Mr J were able to keep to your normal routine during Lock Downs the n something either Ilegal or Strange was afoot with you ?
