Hi , looking at a boat this week with twin 2001 kamd 43 and from what I have found on the forum they seem quite reliable, possibly some head gasket issues but they don’t seem to have the valve concerns of the 42 or the 44 . So I am just wondering is there anything I should be looking out for , there is 500 hours on them and the boat and engines look very well cared for . Apart from annual servicing what else should have been done to them , is there any major servicing due at this stage ? Thanks

Possibly the best engines ever assembled and painted green by Volvo Penta.
No complicated electronics.
Not too many valves .
Earlier kad42 issues resolved.

Head gaskets still, leak on this model along with the gasket between the head and exhaust manifold , small electrical issues with compressor black box relay and clutch .
If it’s if shaft drive beware of the earlier Volvo gearbox as it’s obsolete , the HS63 is ok.

It is on shafts , don’t know which gearbox yet , have been told it’s hydraulic though. Engines and engine room look spotless , how would I tell if there was or is any leaks , would it be obvious?

That's a good thing is it not?

Absolutely, she is actually a 1992 boat repowered in 2001 and still with the original owner who seems to have really looked after it . So I’m going for a look and as it’s a 2 day trip to see it I want to make sure I ask the right questions and be sure of the engines . If I do make an offer on it, it will be another 5/6 weeks before she can go back in the water for a sea trial .

One good thing about a clean engine bay is any engine leaks should be easy to spot. A trial run , possibly after and offer is accepted but before you complete the purchase is essential.

Look at the cooller carefully underneath the end cap at the back of the engine for corrosion and drips, very difficult to see but it can rot out the cooler.
