What's wrong with it?

It is absolutelly same if i disconect it or connect.Engine wont start, cant shift, cant diagnose.

Same if i switch to second engine and if i plug working ECU to this engine everything is working fine.

So i decided its the ECU unit.

Thanks for answer

Martin

Martin, we had a KAD44 ECU fail earlier in the year and I finally managed to get the old / broken one home to have a look at it.

The old one was largely working, but wasn't giving any lights on the EDC panel nor was it allowing the boat to select gear.

I opened it up and couldn't see any obvious signs of failure. I have heard of one person who managed to re-solder a loose connection but I know no more than that.

The terminals looked OK on mine but weren't perfect. I do wonder if some very careful cleaning might bring it back to life.

I sent internal photos to one ECU repair specialist to see if they could do a component test however they said that due to the type of potting that has been used it is not possible to get to the PCB.

Nobody has any way of testing these ECU's (other than fitting one to an engine).

I'll be interested in other people stories / theories.

Thank you Petem ...

Unfortunately, you can't buy a new ECU, I wrote an email to almost every company I found on the Internet and to no avail, especially at this time ...

Martin, do they say that this part is now obsolete (discontinued forever) or are they waiting for a new batch to be manufactured?
The wrote to me :
Unfortunately we do not have any in stock at the moment.
There is no estimated time of delivery.

Have you tried contacting Coastal Rides to see if they have a second hand one?

Also, have you posted a message on the Facebook Group "Volvo Penta Victims" to see if anyone there can help?

It's also worth joining boatdiesel.com and asking there.

When parts are on back order , I have not looked into this but if it’s the case worldwide the dealer submits what is called an ARGOS case , must mean something different in Swedish ! The dealer submits this with the engine serial number , it is then Expressed to Volvo , this can only happen on an express order not a stock order .
You are given a lead time.

My concern would be that they need to get a new batch made and no doubt Covid will have delayed things. That's assuming there are still manufacturers who are willing and able to make these (they're 20 year old ECU technology). If it's now an extinct part there's going to be a lot of very unhappy owners out there (including me).
