Kad44 keeps stopping then wont restart

I have a kad 44 that will run well for a hour or so then when in rev range between 1500 and 2000rpm engine will come out of gear and drop rpm to around 1000rpm. But more recently the engine will just die then won't restart until the following day when cold.


i have already
Batteries drop tested
switched throttle potentiometer
shift actuators switched between engines, fuel filters changed and cleaned.
Big square plug cleaned and put back together.
Could it be the ecu fuel cooler? Thanks in advance

you mean the engine will come out of gear on its own ?
when you say it won’t start again..do you mean it will crank over but won’t fire up ? Or it just won’t do anything and all is dead ?

Yes engine will come out of gear on its own

And it won't crank evc panel lights up but won't crank over. But if I come back on 1 then go down the following day will start fine

Is it on shore power , has it been on a charger until the “ next day “ ?
Anything electronic like you mention a “ ECU “?

If so iam thinking alternator or it’s circuit / connections faulty ( inc warning lights ) …the engine runs out of juice = dies an hr later .Battery recovers over night = restarts .

Stick a voltmeter on the batts when running should get north of 14 v if the alternator s stuffing charge in .Have you eliminated this yet ? The batt connects need to be good as well have you removed them , cleaned up everything and checked for continuity etc .A semi loose connect etc could starve an ECU .

Gauges are all reading that there is voltage coming in from alternator but that's if gauges are reading correctly

To clarify the exact sequence.
The engine comes out of gear. It is still are cruise rpm. The rpm then falls and stops and then will show evc lights but not crank ?
The precise sequence is important
