Hi,
I have a 5 year old KAD 43 in an Aquador 26 HT
I know the compressor always makes a noise when it comes in at about 1500 rpm but mine screeches loke a banchee.
I have had the belt changed and the clutch looked at which is OK but I am sure the noise is not normal. It goes away at about 2,200 rpm
Should I ignore the noise or is something wrong
All responses are much appreciated

You say you have had the belt changed, but which one? if just the compressor belt, then you should also change the main one which does all the work.
Its driving the water pump, alternator, servo pump, and then when the compressor cuts in its really working hard.

Thanks Spannerman,
I assume that the main belt was changed with the full service the engine had at the end of March but yet to receive the bill for. Given your advice I will certainly check.

Re: KAD 43 Compressor noise --- KAD 300

Hei ...

I have the same problem on a KAD300 Komp. and I have had all 4 belts changed by the local VP man. Also I was getting a lot of black "soot" ... although now lessening by the hour.

I queried this and was informed:

1. the noise is normal ... at ca. 2100 when the turbo cuts in ... no noise
2. the additional high pitched "whistling" I get is due to a breather hole
3. the soot is caused by; (a) new belts, which will soot until they bed in and (b) due to several pulleys having a little rust (because the prev. belt had incorrect width ?) which will soon dissappear

But ... she runs great whatever the sound ;-))

Had exactly this on mine. Found out that the belt tensioners were full of sh*t.
Washed out and regreased them and they are now very much quieter. You have to listen to hear the compressors cut in.
PS they cut in a ~1600rpm and off at ~2200 as the turbos take over.
OTOH if you are rich , then just fit new ones!
