JW's Upgrades for 2016 - Tender

We are looking at coming over to Torquay from Brixham this weekend. Keep an eye out for a Bavaria 37. If we are out at same time will try to get some photos of your new setup.

Update
There is a sailing event in the harbour this weekend.
The harbour master has advised me to turn up early and get launched before they get started.
So we will aim to get to the slipway at around 08:00 tomorrow (Sunday)
It would have been better to have done this test during the week but the weather has been awful.

This is about the last chance before we load the Novurania and plastic dock onto a trailer bound for Spain.
Ferry is booked from Plymouth on the 27th (Easter Sunday).
That should put is in Sant Carles at the end of Monday (28th)
Looking forward to a comfortable crossing on the Pont Aven.
Less than an hour by road from home to Plymouth and then about 6 or 7 hours across Spain.
The ferry takes 23 hours but it is closer to a cruise than a cross channel ferry - nice restaurant and reasonable cabins on board.

Good luck with the sea trials - looks like you've picked a great day :encouragement:

Only just seen post, but unfortunately wouldn't be able to get out to take pics anyway as tow vehicle's broken again - looks like 4 gear clutch in the auto box has failed, so boating on hold for a couple more weeks I suspect! (By which time it'll probably be gales again!)

Interested to hear how well you find the tabs work too - they transformed both my Fletchers in terms of low speed planing and stability in wakes etc.

If you get a chance, look out for Athena, just made the trip round from Portishead to her new berth at Torquay. Owner is forumite "Who". Top bloke and we will miss him at Portishead.

All went well today
No problems.
It was too cold to play with the trim tabs apart from just setting them and leaving them.
Also didn't really get to try the engine trim out.
The big thing we all noticed was just how dry the boat kept us.
The only time one of us got wet was SWMBO during launch and recovery when she took off her shoes to control the boat on and off the trailer.

Anyway, here are some pics

Boat back home in the garage again after a good flush out.
Next big job is to load it onto the flat bed trailer for the road trip down to Sant Carles.

Sorry Mike - our plans to come over to Torquay for the night went to pieces !!! Didn't get down to the boat in Brixham until late Saturday evening and we didn't make it out this morning !

You seem to have had a successful test however - with some good pictures - all the best for the onward journey to SCM.

yes exactly,
also for us that was the biggest improvement,
not only complete absense of spray, but also dry feet in all circom's...

collor sheme looks good, I have chosen grey, but I like the Novurania Blue
good luck with the trip, take it easy, no stress

Thanks Bart
The colours aren't the best for keeping clean but they match JW's theme.
We have always kept it to white with a some dark blue (JW's bimini and subtle stripes in the cushions etc) .

Thats NOT its environment!!!
The water temperature is far too cold in that environment!!
Well, I couldn't agree more, as I'm sure you know.
But still better than in a container somewhere mid Atlantic, anyway! :D

PS: for the records, in my previous deleted post I had posted this very same comment, but from a mobile device, and I only see now that it got deleted somehow.
Am I alone in finding the mobile version of the forum cumbersome to the point of being almost useless? Aaarumph!

I don't use the mobile version ever. If you're on a mobile then there's a link at the bottom of the page that will serve you the desktop version.

Great conclusion to long project Hurricane. The boat looks great - it#'s the best tneder int he 4.3m category bar none, imho, and yours looks to ride really well
That yuk California grey decal on the back of the engine, not even in the middle on yours - suggest peel it off asap. They use some amazing glue that welds it on after a while. Took me an hour to remove mine!

It is not over yet, JFM.

Had an email from Brittany Ferries - The Pont Aven which is our usual ferry to Santander is having gas scrubbers fitted so they cancelled our outgoing trip from Plymouth.
They did offer us an alternative from Portsmouth but that would be on the Cap Finistère which is two nights and would be later thus not leaving us much time in Sant Carles to fit the chocks etc.
So we opted for a shorter crossing to Roscoff a few days earlier and we will drive across France to (hopefully) arrive in SC over this weekend.
Brittany Ferries are paying some compensation and providing a lower fare to Roscoff so we will take our time and stop in a few hotels on the way.

This is the load

You may have wondered how we managed to get the Novurania onto that trailer.
Part of planning this project involved a scaffolding framework to load the dinghy.
We are also taking a floating dock with us - you can just see it (under the RIB) in this pic of the framework:-

You can also see the Rocna Anchor strapped on the front.

I bought an electric hoist off Ebay.
Probably not a structure that any Health and Safety officer would be proud of but it did the job.
I removed the dock's rollers and the dinghy sits nicely in the dock's plastic recess - just put a couple of blankets down first.
Unloading should be easier - the boatyard in Sant Carles has a crane that will simply lift it off and launch it.

We've done a test run - only 900 miles to go then.
Wish us luck.
