I used JVComm32 on my old laptop with XP with great sucess (RTTY Weather on SSB) . The software doesn't seem to be available for Vista. Is there a patch or alternative (free) product.

Maybe you can install on vista if you right click the installer and select XP Compatability.

Thats interesting James, I didn't know you could do that. I've also got other 'old' software which this could be the answer for also.

The standard JVcomm 32 runs fine on vista on my laptop. I don't think you will notice any difference.

I installed an old version of The Complete Course and also the final UK version of Quicken on vista. Quicken wasn't so easy but they have a forum which had a work around.

Thanks, I've just downloaded it. Although my SSB source (Lowe HF150) is on the boat, the software looks like its working ok and ready to go.

Can anyone offer me a "quick start" solution please?
Ive JVComm32 + Win7, a HF ICOM IC-725, a USB connection from the back of the 725 into my laptop.
I cant find any documents on JVcomm.de or anywhere to tell me how to get these things working. There is a help file on the JVomm.de website but the help file is not compatible with Windows7 or Vista.

First problem.
I have a connection from the back of my ICOM 725 that connects to USB. In the JVComm32 window, what do I set my interface setting to be? There is sound card or PTC, if I select sound card then I cannot specify a port number. If I select PTC, then what?
Incidentally I know "virtual" com ports are assigned when devices are plugged in. For instance sometimes my GPS USB connector is on COM4 and sometimes COM3. When I furst plugged the ICOM into the USB it said COM5, but whether that has changed since I do not know, nor can I seem to find out how to indentify what COM port the ICOM is now conencted on.
So far my advice to anyone wanting to get involved with this, would buy your own met station and employ a team of metreologists to live on your boat with you. Or simpler still, just call god and ask him what the weather will do. Finding Gods telephone number has GOT to be easier than this.
Anyone help? Please?

Thanks for all your help, yes working fine with Vista and in fact my Lowe HF-150 (immaculate in original box with keypad and certainly no corrosion) is now on sale in the ybw "For Sale" section. I thought £160 was about right but offers accepted.

WHY the USB connection ??? The easiest way to use JV32 is to feed the radio audio to the sound card input. You just need to use the audio out on the radio or if it has one the data audio out for packet radio . This is not usually the USB port which I suspect maybe for other uses.
You will have to synchronise the JV32 time base with the fax station to correct for slant and a search of this site should bring that procedure which was well written here recently.

Agree, The Lowe (and probably other good brands) has a "Record Out" small jack type socket which is unaffected by the volume control setting so you don't have to have that annoying (to me!) morce clatter through the speaker. The lead then plugs straight into the mic socket on my laptop......did I mention that my Lowe is in the "For Sale" section?
