You were prepared to risk life and limb bringing your boat up to Ipswich. Apart from sitting on your boat guarding your fenders is there something/anything to do up there ?

If you feel you need to guard your fenders then either use some old ones or go somewhere you trust.
Haven marina is quiter and better the Neptue IMO.
We like a visit there most years - it's somewhere different, the town has some interesting buildings, we found the local museum interesting even though we are not from there, there are some good restaurants, town and quay. And of course the river is very nice.

Live dangerously!

We always try to do at least one trip a year. If the weather closes in, there are plenty of places to go and keep yourself entertained.

What's not to like ? , we've been a couple of times and will most probably do so again soon , the marina on the left round the corner ( not sure of name) is where we go , abit further to walk to town but not much , plus the lock is easy with it pontoon ..

All that. Plus there are cinemas nearby, and Ipswich are playing at home this Saturday if that blows your hair back. It's not a bad place, if you want to spend time in a town.

Thanks for that.
Anybody care to comment on the journey up from the Medway. Hug the coast or Barrow Deep with a left after the wind farm. ?
Leaving Sheerness at HW and using the ebb for bit of speed.

And on your way both to (and from) Ipswich, you could stop off at Pin Mill and enjoy a pint of lunch at the Butt....... Give me a bit of notice and I might even join you there ;o)

Ipswich is good, we like going there.
Getting there? Not sure in that jalopy of yours as the considerations will be different, but we saily types tend to use the Swin, Middle Deep (now buoyed instead of the East Swin), across the Spitway and along the Wallet. We usually run out of ebb tide by the time we are off Clacton so we push the flood from there onwards. Watch out for pots of pots off Walton and around the Naze.

It occurs to me that I gave you a good book about all this....:encouragement:

Yes I know. :)
Decided on keeping the Essex coast nice an close and leaving about an hour afore HW.
We are not fast by MoBo standards. Hope to keep up about 8 knots plus a couple more from the tide.
Anybody know what the weather is going to like in a months time. :)
