Have you not got that dog toilet trained yet. I'll catch the next flight, and bring a shovel with me.

Now you've really upset me.
Having given up my prestigeous and highly sought after berth at Cookham to you just to return to a noisy smelly factory you have the audacity to gloat. Is there no justice in this world? Just wait till I venture onto your poop deck next time. Bosun won't have any rivals!! And I won't be bringing a shovel.
I even note the weather over the last few days. The sun shines on the righteous?
Of course it does.

Yeah but Tony, you're never oop north are you.

I'm always up for drinks and nibbles but then I end up getting trashed by even more drinks and nibbles - especially when the sun is shining!

Etymology of Poop Deck?

Haven't got a clue, but I culled this from the web, courtesy of Messrs Google:

<<Poop Deck: The aft-most, raised weather deck on a ship. The name came from the Middle English poupe, from the Latin puppim, meaning the rear section of a ship The word derived from the Latin Puppis, meaning a doll or small image. The Romans and other ancient seafaring peoples had a small sacred idol or image affixed to the stern, where the deity it represented could watch over the vessel.>>

Interesting (-ish), if true. I have an all-powerful being watching over my vessel and dictating my every move; it's the wife................

Tell me about it...I keep getting emails from my father (who is retired) about how good the sailing has been blah blah.

Almost makes you want to email them a virus!

Re: Etymology of Poop Deck?

What an excellent response. Note the original Latin 'puppis' from whence may even have come the vernacular 'puppies' meaning of course a small godlike animal that needs watching over `lest the poop deck become sullied!

Speaking of puppies, Nick2 ventiured forth last night and joined us for an hour. Methinks he is on a hiding to nothing as Joanne and the girls have apparently already decided that there is to be a new addition to the menage which may well lead to an increase in the number of poop decks in Hythe......and - shock, horror - could even take precedence over boating this weekend

Peter....I crave your forgiveness and indulgence. We have now moved on to Windsor, having dallied a while at Bray to bring hop based sustenance to that nice Mike Gates who throws such excellent parties. I hesitate to tell you that the weather this evening is even more delightful than yesterday tho I opine that Marlow is a rather more gracious place to while away the hours.....and the weather threatens to improve even more as the weekend progresses..........

Poop Deck
No, this term does not come from sailors hanging off the stern of the ship, relieving themselves. Rather, it is from the Latin puppis meaning stern. So the poop deck is the aft deck of a ship.
