If buying JRC ensure you buy one with a CRT screen. I believe JRC are the world's biggest manufacturers and some others you see on the market are theirs but re-badged. Perhaps someone else will confirm or deny this.

Yep, I bought the 2000 last Tuesday from a company in the US - via ebay (probably the same supplier?). A bit worried about whether the offer was genuine, I was relieved to see it arrive by courrier on Friday. Well I wasn't there but was relieved to hear - my wife was less than relieved and began demanding a sound cost/benefit analysis etc etc. Anyway, I digress, but the kit arrived, brand new, in original box - all manuals etc. I can't tell you if it actually works but it's now on board waiting for someone to fit it (anyone any contacts in Solent able to install it?). The cost was US$899 plus £135 freight/duty. That is a bit of a bargain. A CRT is std with the 2000 - make sure you check the size of the CRT itself and where you plan to put it. It's a bit bigger than I thought.

Zefender thanks for your advice - we followed your lead and successfully bid for a JRC 2000 at last night's auction.
