JPK 39FC

How is the Volvo Penta going? Is it the D1-30 you have?

I think I also recall you just sticking with the standard 2 blade folding prop?

Don't suppose you could share steaming speeds, in flat water, at say at 1600 RPM, 1800RPM?

I'm never in a hurry, so if I could do a half decent speed at 1600 RPM that would do me ... Anyone be able to confirm if I'd need to worry about glazing the cylinder walls at such a slow pace?

Oh, and I read the MDI controller box is a regular failure point. Is that anything you were concerned about, or are we thinking that was just in older models?

Appreciate any info :-)
Next time out I’ll take a note and post it.
At the moment I’ll be sticking with the two bladed prop
On my previous Dehler with a D1-30 I had absolutely zero probs. New exhaust elbow at about 1,000 hours, nothing else.

It depends on whether my cup is half full, or half empty, on how I look at Photon Infinity. Either well shaken down and de-bugged; or in early need of some £££ replacements (sails, rigging etc). Although availability, without the lengthy lead time, is definitely on her side.

Meanwhile, for completeness, having visited RM, JPK & J-Composites over the summer cruise, I stopped in at Pogo last week. Impressed by factory, team and time aboard a (static) Pogo 36. Complete with family crew owners, of 6 years. Discussion underway, with Pogo, about what their lead time really is. Whilst I try to get a test sail through the (very hospitable) owners association.

From following PI on instagram, I think they had a separate set of dacron sails that they used for the long distance stuff.

Hadn’t appreciated that….thanks

Not quite the thing to say, on the JPK 39FC thread, but I will confess that for all I admire the boat, I do find the 39FC slightly intimidating. In terms of sheer size / volume (coming from a 30 footer). And in terms of some of the systems (eg the hook on, decoupled halyards). Whereas the Pogo 36 felt bigger (than my current boat) but more manageably so. Also, to my own surprise, I very much liked the pared back Pogo interior. JPK still wins out on single-handed cockpit ergonomics though. Main & jib sheet winches to hand at the helm. I’ve yet to see a better set up.

I'd suggest that anyone reading this post has also looked quite closely at RM and Pogo. For a purchase it can be hard to choose between the 3 manufacturers :-)

Watching those YouTube videos of the Pogo's easily getting on the plane is very appealing.

I also think those RM's are stunning to look at.

I would be happy with any of them :-)

Awesome, appreciate that. Also great to hear your D1-30 experience has been a positive one!

Also interested in what speed and revs people usually motor at. (I doubt anyone potters along at 1700 RPM like me)

(I steam slowly at low revs to save $$$ on fuel and put less stress and wear on the engine, although I do need to avoid glazing by being tooo light on the throttle) ... Am I correct thinking fuel usage increases exponentially with speed?

I have to say I don’t find the 39 remotely intimidating unless true pressure comes from within. The performance is only there when one wants it, a bit like a Porsche, easy to potter to the shops in and equally easy to use for a serious blast.
Not sure what you mean by decoupled halyards?????? The systems on my boat are no more complicated than any others I’ve sailed/owned. Except maybe the B&G which is ludicrously over functional but that’s a whole thread in itself!

When becalmed we motor at 2-2,200 rpm which gives us about 6 Kts with the standard Volvo two bladed folder. Our estimated consumption is <two litre per hour.

I had discussions with Pogo about a 1250 but they declined to build one, either a 36 or a 44. Don’t like the 36 and the 44 is way too big.
The attitude of RM post restructuring did offend me and make me very wary plus the 11.80 is, to my eyes, very caravany. I appreciate different strokes for different folks.
I find the JPK by far the best looking and most functional of them by a long way. After several mooches round the factory I was v pleased with the workmanship.
After a few months of ownership, I haven’t changed any views.
Am still unaware of how I jumped the queue but. 😀😀😀

JPK "Photon Infinity" has a very large (1/3 page?) full colour photo-advertisement in the back of Decembers Yachting Monthly.

€350000 + VAT.

I have no connection, obviously...
