This was in the paper at the time of that jetski accident on Port Phillip Bay.

There is widespread resentment against those who sell and those who use these toys. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that this only pleases these juveniles, who probably see it as a badge of honour and a justification for their 'rebellion'.

Jetskis can be a very useful tool. Surely it's not jetskis that are an issue but some of their riders?
I've ridden a few but would rather use a speedboat for fun.

There are a tiny number of possible serious uses for jet-skis but scarcely a beach around the world where bathers and others can enjoy peace and quiet without their noise and smell. Whenever a crowded beach is shown on film, whether Eastbourne or Thailand, you can invariably see these machines going round and round, having what they perceive as 'fun'.

I am going to stand up for them.

Of course they should be driven safely, but because some of us want one thing, it doesnt mean others shouldnt enjoy their hobby.

I see motor boats roaring into anchorages and a host of other things that some would consider from their point of view anti-social, but each has it place as long as people behave with resonable consideration.

In time they will also depend on batteries for their power more and more and will we be just as anti? Sometimes I think anyone enjouing themselves which is seen not to conform is all it takes.

Personally I couldnt be happier to see people out on the water enjoying themselves but have consideration for other users of course.

One might think that you have never heard a jet-ski. Sailing down the wallet I hear the ones off Frinton from two miles away buzzing incessantly. Goodness knows what it must be like for the poor folk who bought houses there before these things were invented. There is no way in which they can be operated in recreational areas without disturbing people and wildlife, and the limited brain-power of the average user seems to preclude the idea of consideration for others.

I've no time for the lunatics and yobs that ride jetskis, but we don't notice the considerate ones, precisely because they're considerate and don't go blasting through our anchorages. There are those on the road who hate bikers for exactly the same reason. A bike attracts the thrill-seeking yob element, but there are plenty of safe (except from SMIDSY car drivers) bikers going about their lives being kind to children and old ladies. Most of the yobs either collect their Darwin awards or grow up and get bikes with silencers that work. Why would jetskis be any different?

Well I thought it was funny!

It is funny and therein lies the danger of 'harmless', humerous children's poems, a genre perfected by the Nazis who introduced notions of Anti-Semitism at the earliest possible moment in the education of young German children to softly reaffirm the antisocial nature of helping jews/blacks/jetskiers avoid their just fate.

I’m really not sure that there is an accurate simile to be found between the Holocaust (6m executed for breathing) and the occasional arrest and prosecution of jet ski drivers behaving badly towards other citizens.

Somewhere in the attic I have a copy of Struwwelhitler, an allied wartime spoof of the 19th century german book of cautionary poems, Struwwelpeter. It borrows the rhymes and styles of the original to take the mickey out of Hitler and his mates.

Or in other words, everything should be allowed, even if it means that nobody can take a child to a beach to enjoy a quiet afternoon and swim in safety.
