Jet Ski legislation on the way?

As othesr have said, there is no requirement in UK law to register small vessels, but there may be offences that the master (skipper/driver) of a jetski could be charged with that would not be possible if it was a beach toy and not a vessel.

Much as I dislike jetskis I really don't want compulsory registration of jetskis. It would rapidly be expanded to all other pleasure vessels.

We've had compulsory registration on the Broads for many years, and on other inland waterways AFAIK. Hasn't been a problem.
Also 'Personal Water Craft ' are barred from The Norfolk Broads.

The first was designed and tested just post WW2 by Phillip Vincent of motorbike fame, using the novel two stroke lifeboat engine he designed.
I inherited a brand new one of those engines, complete with stern tube and prop. I sold it to a chap restoring an Amanda water scooter. I'm told the engines were also used in some small boats on the Thames.

Once you have mastered - on the first stand up ones anyway - getting on, standing up and getting a bit of speed out of one, what do you do next? You cant take the family cruising and have a beach picnic.
The same goes for a foiling Moth, a pair of waterskis or a parachute. Maybe people just find them fun?

It's the antisocial and reckless activities of the jetski riders (ok not every single one of them) which make them conspicuous. F/Moths, waterskiers and parachutists don't weave dangerously and deliberately at high speed amongst moorings and swimmers, barely in control, trying to splash and frighten people.
If the same genitally-challenged selfish retards did the same thing on large motorbikes in public parks and playgrounds, old bill would nick them and rightly so.

Unfortunately around here SO many bridleways have been torn to pieces by off-road 4x4s and trail-bikes. Farmers and villagers have got together to block them with fallen tree-trunks and large concrete obstructions... so the cretins just trash adjacent fields to bypass them!

My Lords, it may be convenient if at this stage I give you Lordships the Government views on this Bill, and I do not think I need take up a great deal of your Lordships time in doing so. In short, and generally, we welcome this Bill as having a certain contribution to make to road safety; and naturally anything which is likely to make a contribution to road safety is to be welcomed. Having, I am quite frankly happy to say, a little more experience of motor cycling in my life than the noble Lord who so eloquently explained the Bill, I have often wondered whether his statement that the motor cycle jet ski. was a "dangerous beast" of itself was entirely correct, because I have often wondered whether it was not something to do with the chap on the top, which seems to me a very important element.

Yes and motorbikes have a graduated test and licensing scheme, starting with compulsory basic training off the road, then engine size limits for a couple of years to build experience.
Motorbikes are intrinsically dangerous compared to other vehicles, and attract a certain sort of user. This is also true of Personal Wa**er Craft.

And are they prepared for the consequences, i.e. losing their house or farm, when a legitimate user is seriously injured as a result of their vigilantism?

There are places where you can hire jetskis, presumably with no requirements whatsoever other than handing over some cash. That's just asking for trouble...

I ride a motorcycle. Please elaborate as to what sort of person you think I am
